Can you make a great movie by making a movie about a guy making a really terrible movie?
You sure can — judging by the reviews for "The Disaster Artist," which makes its way to Milwaukee theaters this week.
"The Disaster Artist" tells the story of Tommy Wiseau, an actor wannabe who, unable to get a break in the roles he wanted, decided to create one for himself, writing, directing, producing and starring in a low-budget, nonsensical drama called "The Room."
Opening in just one theater in Los Angeles in 2003, the movie became a bad-movie cult phenomenon a la "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," with audiences parroting back the horrible dialogue and bringing their own props to play along.
His friend and co-star, Greg Sestero, ended up writing a book called "The Disaster Artist" about the making of "The Room" that was, if anything, even funnier than the original.
