Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will continue to promote more strategic and sustainable collaboration with the industry in the future, as well as wanting the existing collaboration between industries to continue to last for a long time.

UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kamarudin D Mudin said the collaboration between the university and the industry will not only have a good impact on both parties but will continue to sustain the state and community development especially in the state of Sabah.

"Along with the development of UMS as a higher education institution in Sabah, it is becoming the university's requirement to widen the network with various parties through industry and community libatships which will support the socio-economic development of the country especially in Sabah in various fields of research, transfer of knowledge, talent development and so forth.

"This collaboration will not only help the university in strengthening its capability as an innovative and relevant educational institution but will also help in producing graduates who are faced with future-proof graduate," he said.

He was speaking at the UMS Dinner with the Industry at Hotel Promenade, Kota Kinabalu.

According to him, university education with this industry is very important and is one of the key elements of UMS 2018-2022 Strategic Plan in UMS-KRA 6 which outlines the involvement of industries and communities in developing countries and countries.

"To date, UMS has about 105 active" official "industry partners, the industry that collaborates with UMS through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Cooperative Letter of Intent (LoI).

"While more than 500 industries have had a potential relationship with UMS either through discussions and initial meetings of potential cooperation, courtesy, student delivery undergo industrial training and so on," he said.

Add Datuk Prof. Dr. D Kamarudin, UMS has undertaken various initiatives in promoting the industry to collaborate with UMS, such as the industry campus (Industry @ Campus) which provides the opportunity for any company to open their small branches within the university by taking students to undergo training industry or work with them.

"At the same time these companies are also able to interact with lecturers from all walks of life for various aspects of mutual collaboration such as consulting, expertise, commercialization and so on in helping to provide good benefits to universities and companies.

"This year UMS has also received three CEOs through the implementation of the AixChange program: CEO @ Faculty by the initiative of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM).

"They are the Founder and CEO of G & A Group, Dato 'George Lim; Huawei Technologies Malaysia CEO Michael Yuan and Shell Petroleum Sabah General Manager Prithipal Singh and these three CEOs will assist the UMS academy through a variety of potential activities in developing educational aspects in Sabah, "said Datuk D Kamarudin.

Also present was UMS Board Chairman, Datuk K Y Mustafa; CEO of G & A Group, Dato 'George Lim; Repsol Adviser for East Malaysia, Datuk Eddie Abdullah; Managing Director of Sofield Petroleum Sdn Bhd, Dato 'Suhaili Abdul Rahman; President of the Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI) Datuk Ir. Chong Hon Len; and CEO of MAS Wing, Aminuddin Zakaria.
