Fanus banned in Dhaka

Legal measures will be taken against those who defy the instructions
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed an indefinite ban on flying Fanus (paper lanterns) in Dhaka.

The ban was imposed to avert any untoward incident, said a press release signed by DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Saturday.

Many individuals and groups fly paper lanterns from different places in the capital on several occasions– both national and religious.

The DMP says these lanterns could cause fire incidents or even pose security threats.

The press release said legal measures in line with Code of Criminal Procedure would be taken against anyone defying the ban.
