Early Morning

I sit in total darkness not a candle do I see
And listen for the voice of God to come and share with me
His message for the morning as I've read within His Word
The beauty of the lessons that He's wanting to be heard

And then He speaks so softly in the precincts of my mind
The truths that He would share through me that others need to find
Of grace and faith and holiness that only can be found
In those who spend that special time with Him on holy ground

Where nothing but the chirping of the crickets can be heard
No voices or distractions from the world that will detour
The heart from truly listening for guidance from the Lord
The guidance that the penniless are able to afford

Because though Truth is priceless beyond all that we could pay
It's waiting for reception in the hearts of those who pray
And focus purely on the words that God will share with them
Who rise before the morning light to meet awhile with Him

And Truth knows not the boundaries of our ethnicities
Does not depend on culture or our nation's history
But has one Blood that purchased every soul that's waits today
In prayerful meditation to hear what the Lord will say

While focused on His promises His prophets and His kings
Who lived to lead His people in pursuit of all the things
To make them as a people with a purpose in this world
To live as holy messengers His banner to unfurl

His banner that is Love and Truth that cannot be denied
When all the world extends to us is fully set aside
And we take time each morning to explore God's words with Him
Who's placed His power in every thought that we derive from them

When taken as intended by the One Who meets me now
Who shares with me His Way of life the what's the when's the how's
The way He did with Jesus when He lived and walked with men
To give to us Example in our battle over sin

And promised if we're faithful to the grace He will supply
We too might have the victory to live and never die
Where everyday's communion will be with Him face to face
Because we took these mornings to be one with Him by grace
