"The Kentish glory (Endromis versicolora) is a moth of the family Endromidae. With a wingspan of up to 92mm (3.6") it is one of the largest moths in Germany. Here it is seen in Süd-Spessart, mostly near forest edges and open spaces with birches nearby. It flies from mid-March to mid-May in one generation. This moth only has a short life, as it doesn't eat; its only goal is procreation. The females sit in vegetation by day and are active at night. The males are attracted to the females by feromones. The females prefer to lay eggs on birches, from which the caterpillars eat. The pupation happens in a loose cocoon on the forest floor. There the pupa spends the winter until the cycle starts again in spring. This moth is relatively rare and is, unfortunately, like so many butterflies, on the Red List of endangered species."
