First translation into English of Frobenius' 1893 obituary for Leopold Kronecker. Part 3.

As always in this series, I tacitly modernize the Germany orthography in my literal transcriptions of the German original of the obituary; my reason for this is that this way, I make the obituary available in contemporary orthography; the changes are slight anyway)

Let us start with a more than a century-old postcard from Kronecker's home tome "Liegnitz" (now Legnica in Poland):

BEGINNING OF PART 3 OF MY TRANSLATION .

"Leopold Kronecker wurde am 7. December 1823 zu Liegnitz geboren."
My tr.: 'Leopold Kronecker was born 1823-12-07 in #Liegnitz.'

"Sein Vater, ein kenntnisreicher und philosophisch gebildeter Kaufmann, legte auf eine sorgfältige Erziehung und einen gründlichen Unterricht seiner Kinder den höchsten Wert."
My tr.: 'His father (a knowledgeable and philosophically-educated merchant) set the greatest store by a careful education and thorough teaching of his children.'

"Er ließ seinen Sohn anfangs durch einen Hauslehrer unterrichten und brachte ihn dann auf eine Vorschule, die unter der Leitung des späteren Conrectors Werner stand."
My tr.: 'Initially, he let his son be taught by a private tutor an then sent him to a preschool which was led by the future 'Conrector' Werner.'

"Dieser vortreffliche Mann, an dem der junge Kronecker mit der innigsten Verehrung hing, war auch später am Gymnasium sein Lehrer in der griechischen Sprache, der philosophischen Propädeutik und der christlichen Religion, worin er, obwohl nicht Christ, an dem Unterrichte Teil nehmen durfte."
My tr.: 'Later at the 'Gymnasium' [a kind of German high-school LG,I], this excellent man (which had the heartfelt affection of the young Kronecker) was his teacher of Greek, philosophical propaedeutics and Christian religion (which Kronecker was permitted to attend even though he wasn't a Christian).'

"Einen noch nachhaltigeren Einfluss aber übte ein anderer seiner Lehrer auf seine Entwicklung aus, Kummer, der damals noch in bescheidener Stellung am Gymnasium in Liegnitz wirkte."
My tr.: 'However, an even more lasting influence for Kronecker's developmen had another teacher, Kummer, who back then still worked in a modest position at the 'Gymnasium'. '

"Schon früh erkannte er die hervorragende mathematische Begabung seines Schülers, und unter seiner Leitung begann dieser sehr bald in die höheren Teile der Analysis einzudringen."
My tr.: 'Early on already, he recognized the exceptional mathematical talent of his pupil, and under his guidance the latter very soon started to delve into the more advanced parts of analysis.'

"In jeder Wissenschaft, der sich Kronecker gewidmet hätte, würde er Bedeutendes geleistet haben."
My tr.: 'Kronecker would have had significant achievements in any science which he had dedicated himself to.'

"Seiner Vorliebe für das klassische, besonders das griechische Altertum blieb er bis an sein Ende getreu."
My tr.: 'Till the end of his life he remained faithful to this predilection for the classical (in particular, Greek antiquity).'

"In der Jurisprudenz erwarb er sich ausgebreitete Kenntnisse, die er später, als zwei seiner Söhne sich diesem Studium zuwandten, noch erweiterte und vertiefte."
My tr.: 'He acquired extensive knowledge in jurisprudence, knowledge which he even broadened and deepened later on (when two of his sons turned to this line of study).'

"Ich bin sicher, schrieb ihm bei einer Gelegenheit sein Freund Hermite, dass Sie in der Politik oder Diplomatie den vollkommensten Erfolg gehabt hätten."
My tr.: 'I am sure (thus his friend Hermite once wrote to him once) that you would have had the most complete success in politics or diplomacy.'
