Since I do not know "cronyism" either, here is my (authorised) translation o the comment:
I have always used Discord only "when necessary" and have quickly left groups if they were not important and current. Everything outside of Steem still carries the undertone of cliquishness. Although, sometimes you do need to network... ;-)
