The First Step in a Decorating Project - This Will Save You Loads of Time!
Good day Steemians!
After a bit of a break I thought I would write about a topic that would help you get started on your next decorating project. The start of any project can be daunting so this is where inspirational themes and design concepts come in. Once you figure out what your design concept is, you are off to the races. Without one you may be setting yourself up for a lot of frustration.
A design concept is the foundation for all of your design decisions. It lays the groundwork for style, colour, and layout. Think of your favourite past time. What do you love and what are you passionate about? Do you have artwork, an article of clothing or an object that you absolutely adore? What great experiences have you had that contribute to who you are? Fashion, music, dining, art, travel...these are some of mine. Pick ONE and hone in on the details of your that theme. For example, travelling overseas might be one of your great passions. If you are inspired by remote and adventurous destinations, an interior decorating scheme might encompass exotic patterns, textures and colours. Selecting some of your furniture and accessories along this concept line would also help you pull it together. Of course not every little piece has to be within this theme but a few items and colours here and there create that feel.
Below are some of my design boards from my decorating class to give you an idea of what a design concept would entail.
You don't have to use paper and foam boards either. Just cut and paste a few of your ideas, images and words onto a blank word processing page and go from there. It really does not require any sophisticated software although if you have one, all the more fun.
Design boards are a great starting point for your project and really fun to do if you have the time to devote to it. You can refer to it over and over again when making design and renovation decisions. Putting in the initial effort will save you time in the long run too. :)
Do you have a home decorating project coming up?
That beats shuffling around until it looks good :P
Will keep in mind for my next wall redecoration.
For sure!
great post stanynight! keep it up! and thanks again for following!
