Depression Is a tornado
What do you have to be sad about? Get up and go for a walk in the fresh air, it will make you feel better. Or my favorite, "That is the devil talking, you just have to stomp him out."
I know they are just trying to help, I know they have the best intentions. However, I know that if they have never suffered from the crippling grip of depression they will never understand.
Imagine you are standing in an open field, no house, shed or shelter of any kind in sight. You are enjoying a peaceful walk when you hear thunder in the distance. You turn around and see the low hanging grey clouds. You feel the change in the atmosphere as the clouds slowly begin to rotate. Your stomach drops along with the cloud dropping to the earth, there is a tornado forming and you are right in its path. It doesn't care how bad you want to live, what your social status is or how much money you have. It has no feelings and will destroy anything in its path.
Depression is a tornado. You don't get to choose if it forms, how long it will last, or the amount of destruction it will cause.
This is so true and relatable. I really wish there was a switch or button to turn this feeling/mode off. I wish I possess some magic spell to end the duration of such a state when it occurs.
