With few exceptions, democracy has not brought good government to new developing countries…What Asians value may not necessarily be what Americans or Europeans value. Westerners value the freedoms and liberties of the individual. As an Asian of Chinese cultural background, my values are for a government which is honest, effective and efficient.
Democracy by itself does nothing but guarantee that the majority of the votes that are counted produce a winner or a law enacted. Democracy without a good moral foundation that prohibits injury to the individual as well as the whole is simply mob rule. Some of us in the United States of America like to quote Chairman Stalin, "It is not who votes but who counts the votes that matters."
