#DeleteFacebook tag is very popular lately. New trend? Are you ready for such a DRASTIC step ...

HATE

I realized that hate towards this social media platform is growing faster than ever. Were there many accounts being deleted by the original Facebook users? Hard to tell. Will it be better for Steemit? I guess it depends. At the end of the day do we want more haters from Facebook to move to Steemit?

I was going through a couple of blogs from several accounts that Im paying close attention to and I noticed that Im not the only one interested with this particular issue. My dear Steemit friend @gandhibaba expressed his frustration quite clearly in his latest post:

"Delete Facebook Campaign: How I Converted Three Facebookers to Steemit"

He wrote in his post:

"I was angry, really, at the recent data mining scandal in which Facebook had been implicated. Plus, I was furious that people spend a lot of time on Facebook without getting any reward beyond some useless likes and shares."

It made me stop for a little while and ask myself a question: why do we even bother to be angry at Facebook or their users? Im sure most of us were warned more than once how unsecured social media can be. That whatever we share might in some way or another end up in public "space". I am pretty sure on some level, we all knew that once we agree to something online, there will never ever be 100% true data protection. So why all of sudden are we so angry that public datas are leaking from that platform?

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS

I've been studying social media and human psychology behind it for almost 2 years now and I still cannot understand where our frustration is coming from?

  • Aren't we aware of lack of benefits and rewards coming from facebook?
  • Aren't we aware of the face that we're sharing our life and all those datas are pretty much public?
  • Aren't we aware that facebook and others are using those datas to cover their operating costs?

My most important question would be: is deleting your facebook account now going to change much? Will you be able to protect your data anyway? Personally I don't believe that removing your account from that platform can erase all collected information about any of us. But perhaps Im wrong?

I'm just not too sure what to think of all this. Thoughts anyone?

Cheers, Piotr
