Why is DeepSend going to be revolutionary feature of DeepOnion

The long expected and so much anticipated feature of DeepOnion is a something we are anxious to see, yet not so many people are familiar with the its true potential. Although I can't wait to see VoteCentral in action, this particular feature I will be writing today about will be the biggest asset in DeepOnion's arsenal. The reasons will be explanied through analyze of DeepOnion's wallpaper and elaboration of potential benefits for the users. I will start with first paragraph about DeepSend found in White Paper:

“DeepSend is a transaction-side security feature designed to obfuscate transaction traces within the blockchain (aproblem we earlier identified with BTC). This is distinctly different from our TOR integration, which secures and anonymises network traffic at the transport layer.”

First things first – the following - DeepSend, DeepProtocol (stealth adress) and obsf4 are completely different things. Obsf4 is an upgrade made to obfuscation layers of DeepOnion. DeepProtocol is a name of upcoming stealth address of DeepOnion – which enables transactions untraceable by making additional address in order to distribute the transaction and make it more anonymous, since no information about the sender or the receiver are revealed at any point. The additional address is unique and although it contains needed information, the transaction cannot be read on the blockchain.

DeepSend, on the other hand, is a specific feature, that combines multiple technologies in order to make a transaction completely untraceable. It is not a standard setup, like obsf4 and DeepProtol (when implemented). It is clearly stated in the White Paper that TOR and its additions secure the transactions on a transport layer. The reason for creation of this feature is to ensure that your transactions cannot be connected with your address if someone wants to track it down. Appliance of multiple technologies into one causes a creation of a separate feature which can be used if you choose that level of anonymity. Let's go through the techologies that DeepOnion plans to implement in this feature to see why they can be useful to us as users. NOTE: This techologies combined into this feature provide additional privacy. DeepOnion has provided privacy through TOR.

“Zero knowledge technologies by Zerocash and Zerocoin: such as ZCash and Zcoin”

This technology offers two possibilities – to use coins as you are used to (non-anonymous) or to make them anonymous. In order to make your coins and transactions anonymous, there are mint transactions and pure transactions. A mint transaction allows the specific number of non-anonymous coins to be converted into the same amount of anonymous coins that go to specified zero Zerocash address. This transaction consists of information about the coin, so the other type of transaction is needed to complete the anonymity process. A pure transaction requires the creation of private key that is made by consuming a certain number of coins in order to prove the transaction. The output gives information about the serial number, but it doesn't reveal any other information!construction-summary.png

“CoinJoin technologies, either with centralized mixers (such as masternodes) or random mixers (Seen in Dash and SuperCoin)”

This technology enables anonymity to joined transactions while excluding unnecessary information. To put it simple – few people with the intention to send transactions with similar outputs can join and this way, when the blockchain is observed, one cannot tell who sent something in which direction.

“Ring signatures by CryptoNote: such as Bytecoin and Monero”

This technology enables the creation of private key and, with both public and private key. The main benefit of this technology is that it requires multiple verifications, so the one cannot identify the information of the user on the blockchain and further problems are avoided since the multiple verifications is needed.

Given all these information, it is clear that DeepOnion has the intention of making a very powerful feature which combines all of these technologies which benefits are quite clear and impressive. In order to clarify the vision even more, here is an insight from White Paper:

“To conceptualize, consider the following scenario:

  1. Person A wishes to pay $x to Person B
  2. Instead of Person A paying it directly to Person B, thus publicly disclosing the transaction to all (currently occurring in BTC), Person A pays Person
C, and Person C pays Person D, etc. Finally, after niterations, Person Z pays Person B
  3. As such, all payments between Person A and Person B are guaranteed by multi-signatures, and none of the addresses linked to individuals
  4. This is because Person C receives money from Person B, but pays Person D using a different and
unrelated address. This makes it practically impossible (given enough iterations) to reverse trace the transaction.”

This is just an overview of the planned development. I am sure that our developers are working very hard on using the best out of exciting technologies and putting into something magnificent. The feature is still in progress of creation and there are so many things that we still don't know about it. What we do know – based on facts I have just presented – is that the concept itself is mighty and efficient. We look forward to seeing how this combo will revolutionize the world of crypto.
