According to the senior researcher of Google's DeepMind AI division, human-level artificial intelligence will be achieved shortly.

Dr. Nando de Freitas declared "game over" in the long pursuit for artificial general intelligence (AGI) after the business unveiled an AI system capable of performing a wide range of complicated activities ranging from routine to creative.

DeepMind's research director responded to a story in The Next Web titled "humans will never attain AGI," saying that such an eventuality was unavoidable.

The new Gato AI from the UK-based startup needs to be scaled up to produce an AI capable of competing with human intelligence.

"It's all about making these models bigger, safer, faster at sampling, smarter memory, more modalities, innovative data, on/offline "he stated. ""What will bring AGI is overcoming these hurdles," he stated.

Some renowned AI researchers, however, see AGI as an existential threat to mankind, with Professor Nick Bostrom of Oxford University believing that a "superintelligent" system that surpasses human intellect may eventually supplant humanity on Earth.

According to The Independent, Google is already working on a huge red button to protect against the risks of intelligence explosions.
