Jonestown Revisited Part 1 and Part 2

by @elchacal6

This is a great read and a wonderful submission by @elchacal6 which, if you haven't read yet, I highly recommend that you do. In this two part article, the Jonestown massacre is revisited and offers a different perspective that questions the official narrative on what really happened in Guyanna in 1978. Many of us are vaguely familiar with what transpired at Jonestown but this is an in depth look at the events with the assistance of US government cables provided by Wikileaks. This outstanding article suggests ties to the CIA's mind control programs such as MKUltra and makes us question what we've been told about the 'mass suicide' more than 4 decades on.

"ONE DESK OFFICER VISITING JONESTOWN, FOR EXAMPLE, 'WAS STRUCK BY THE FEELING THAT MANY OF THE PERSONS WITH WHOM HE MET AND SPOKE APPEARED DRUGGED, OR ROBOT-LIKE IN THEIR REACTIONS,' THE REPORT SAID. BUT 'NOTING HIS SHORT STAY--FOUR HOURS--AND HIS LACK OF TRAINING IN WHAT WOULD AMOUNT TO A PSYCHIATRIC SKILL, HE QUALIFIED THE STATEMENT BY SAYING IT WAS A PERSONAL REACTION PROBABLY INFLUENCED BY READING ABOUT RELIGIOUS BRAINWASHING.'"

Congratulations @elchacal6! Excellent work and looking forward to more high caliber contributions in the future.

Why are US Troops Still in Afghanistan?

by @thoughts-in-time

The age old question: Why are US troops still in Afghanistan anyways?
As the official narrative informs us, Osama Bin Laden was eliminated in 2011 after being found living next door to a Military base in Pakistan. His body was immediately dumped in an undisclosed location in the middle of the ocean. Well at least we can say America has liberated the Afghan people by ridding them of ultra-orthodox Taliban who live in huts and caves and...hold on...wait...oh really?...wow...so forget that last part. The Taliban are apparently STILL a thing despite the US military's valiant and brave 17 year old bombing campaign.
Soooo...well at least we can say the opium scourge has been completely eradicated in that corner of the...oh...no way...all time highs even?...hhmm...
Well done @thoughts-in-time, maybe one day it'll become clear as to the real reason for this never-ending war... I suspect many of us here have a good idea already ;)

Another War Bluff Exposed By Wikileaks

by @direrat

This is a short piece that shows the utility of having a publicly available archive containing government records. Essentially, Wikileaks allows us to verify what we're told in the media and compare it to the internal government communications that often are at odds with the official story. Nice work @direrat, keep digging!

and congrats to all!

Thank you and good job to winners.

Congratulations winners, and thank you to the @deepdives crew for running a challenge that sparks a deeper interest in searching for the truth behind common narratives.

I am old enough to remember the Jim Jones incident. It was good to revisit that bit of history and I learned a lot more than the official narrative gave us.
