Death Cab for Cutie “Thank You for Today” Review
Death Cab has been a staple in my playlist for years, and their ninth album “Thank You for Today” is no exception. From start to finish this album hits every note I expect from them, it’s melodic, relaxing, and haunting. “Thank You for Today” is the band’s first foray without ex-guitarist Chris Walla, and you can hear that the band is shifting into a new direction but not forgetting where they came from. With every entry into their discography Death Cab for Cutie has progressed their sound and they didn’t disappoint, by shifting tones and moving forward without a founding member. Death Cab blends the sound of the old and new in such a way that it brings them into 2018 with a statement. That statement is best summed up by bassist Nick Harmer when he said, “I think we struck a really good balance between where we’ve been and what we’re good at and where we want to go”…”I hope people can hear that”. I say we can hear that, “Thank You for Toady” spearheads Death Cab into the future and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.
