Can you imagine being around to see the collision of these galaxies?
It is believed that our solar system is not fundamentally destroyed, but catapulted to a very different location in the "new" galaxy.
Man, what a ride that is going to be?

That would be a really breathtaking ride. Just imagine how the night sky will look like about 1 million years before it will happen. Andromeda will probably cover the whole sky.
