Tips for Data Driven HCI Research - Lessons Learned From the Past Presidential Election
‘Data-Driven’ Campaigns Are Killing the Democratic Party is an article from almost a year ago. But I still revisit this article from time to time.
I'm not a very political person, so the political sides of the story don't mean much to me, but I find the illustrated pitfalls and implications of data-driven work very interesting and noteworthy.
The questions posed in the article I keep coming back to are:
- What’s your message?
- What “issues” make your message important?
- How did you discover these issues?
- How did you solve these issues?
- Do you have a good exemplary story that describe these steps?
I find this mental exercise of going through these questions almost like filling out a good template for writing an HCI systems paper.
