Ranup Lampuan dance is one of the traditional dances originating from Aceh. This dance includes a welcoming dance that is usually performed by a female dancer by presenting betel as a receipt of society. Ranup Lampuan dance is one of the most well-known traditional dances in Aceh, and is often shown to welcome honorable guests and other traditional greetings.
Dance Ranup Lampuan was first created in 1959 by one of the famous artist from Aceh named Yusrizal. Dance Ranup Lampuan name is taken from the word "Ranup" and "Lampuan". Ranup itself in the language of Aceh means "Betel", while Puan is a place / container betel Aceh typical. It is said that this dance is lifted from the customs of the people of Aceh in welcoming the honored guest by presenting betel as their receipt.
