REVIEW: ‘The Daily Life of the Immortal King,’ Episode 23 – “A Sword Dance Of The Five Elements”
Bilibili's The Daily Life of the Immortal King is a school-life/fantasy donghua (Chinese animation). After saving Sun's family business from bankruptcy in the last episode, our heroes decide to compete in a talent event showcasing spiritual sword talents. But something isn't quite right as the various presentations start to go awry. In The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 23, what would someone gain by destroying this seemingly harmless show?
The progressively developing threat from the demon world that has existed since the barrier between it and Earth was shattered at the start of this season has been interspersed throughout this season of The Daily Life of the Immortal King. Despite its existence in the background throughout the season, it has stayed hidden from our characters. However, it appears that this is about to change.
While the last scenes of this week's episode signal a huge turn in the series' season's plot, the majority of The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 23 is filled with magnificent vistas and the series' signature antics. The viewer is given a unique depiction of how the magic of this universe works as each performance progresses. These sequences frequently produce some distinctive and eye-catching moments, from Sun's characteristic dozen spiritual swords to the manipulation of the elements at the tip of a blade.
However, as each performance approaches its critical juncture, something goes awry. Unbeknownst to the audience, someone is attempting to manipulate the play for their own gain. When it became evident why these manipulations are taking place, I was taken aback by the plan's amazing logic. I believe this discovery contains some societal commentary, albeit I could be wrong.
Lin's performance is the one part of the show that I find to be a stumbling block. Sun gasps, "Without her spectacles, Lin is stunning!" when she sees her buddy on stage. This line made me roll my eyes, not only because of the implication that people who wear glasses aren't attractive, but also because of the extreme simplicity of Lin's wardrobe changes. Lin's hair is down, and she's dressed in a significantly more exquisite clothing than the school uniform or job clothes she's worn in prior episodes of the show.
The visual aspect of The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 23 wonderfully conveys all of the story's charm and humor. Lin's performance is without a doubt the visual highlight of the program. The pictures beautifully reflect the mix of grace and magic that pervades this moment. The sequence enchants the audience because to both the design of the magic and the camera placement.
When everything is said and done, The Daily Life of the Immortal King Episode 23 delivers everything the series has always offered, while also ending on a cliffhanger that promises to take our heroes into new, more dangerous waters. I'm looking forward to next Saturday!
