TOPIC:
Divine Intervention

BIBLE READING:
Acts 23: 23-35

Qs. 2,7. See Questions HERE.

DISCUSSION:

When God is for us, who can be against us? Who could have counselled the Roman Army commander to take immediate action contrary to the Jewish leaders' demand? He beat the conspirators at their own game. Imagine the very elaborate arrangements he made to ensure Paul's safe ride to Governor Felix (see vs. 23-26). Psalm 2 shows us God's response to evil plans against His own programme.

It is ironic that a non-Jew is the one who practised fairness while the Jews, who were supposed to know and keep the law, had condemned Paul without giving him a fair hearing. Think of where God has placed you right now and how you can influence it for good.

Consider those who took the severe oath not to eat or drink (vs 12-13) until they have killed Paul. How would they have felt when they found out the next day that Paul had safely moved out of the city? It will be interesting to know if they did keep their vows. The way the civil authority here ensured protection and care for Paul is a challenge to our secular and religious authorities as well as our security personnel.

And so:

Is there any justice that you are supposed to dispense to any person? Follow the example of the commander who gave Paul another chance.

Prayer:

Lord, in who is my trust, may You grant me grace to relax in Your programme for my life.
