Ours went out yesterday too! But we can not free range here, too high a predator load. We put up what we call a snake fence: poultry netting with the tops close together to keep the hawks out.
We move it every few days usually. But this year, with the new fox family living in our neighborhood, we had to back it up with 3 strands of electric wire on a dedicated charger. It will be much harder to move now.
Whoa! That's a robust fence! I was like, "how does it keep the hawks out?", then saw it's a chicken tunnel! Is it hot?!
Yes, sort of. Because we live in an area with NO rocks, we can lean double stake fencing so the top is 2.5' apart and the bottoms 5' apart. This is enough to keep the hawks out, but we can still walk down it.
It, itself, is not hot because we only have chargers for cattle, not poultry. But we have strung 3 wires all around it and that's hooked to a dedicated hot charger. This will deter the fox, but the chickens can't hit it.
