WHAT LURKS BENEATH THE INTERNET - THE DARK WEB
On today’s Daily celestial challenge on darkness initiated by @sirknight, I’d brief on the what lurks beneath the Internet we are all familiar about. Yes, there’s way more to the web you see everyday on your phone and computer screens. It’s like the situation of the top of an iceberg where the little surface crown is visible to land creatures while the mountain-sized root immersed is only accessed by those who want to dive in the water to explore more of the magnitude of the iceberg. The little visible crown is Internet we see while the mountain-sized root is where the darkness lie.
The Internet we are allowed to view freely and what we use everyday, is known as “The Surface web”, functions like our everyday Facebook interactions, Google checkings, Map viewing and other internet operations we are acquainted to. This surface web is what the internet offers to show us and we are allowed to access.
Now you may think that the “Dark web” comes immediately after, Not at all, there’s an intermediate. The Deep web comes after. This huge portion of internet content is embedded with Databases, Medical and financial records, legal documents, repositories, government secluded information and related data. Clearly you would see why this portion of the internet is hidden way from the public viewer’s eye as these are vital information only accessed by qualified boards. The whole portion of this Deep web is not indexed to search engines such as bing, google, etc, only their surfaces ofcourse.
Now swimming deeper down the immersed iceberg figuratively, at the very tip of the bottom of the huge iceberg lurks this Dark web.
So literally, the bottom of the huge deep web is the Dark web. It forms a small but highly sensitive part of the deep web. The dark web holds crucial political information and most especially, The Hidden Wiki. The Hidden wiki is entails the main indexes of dark websites. Records have it that majority of these sites are websites of illegal activities such as drug trafficking, pedophilic felonies interactions, stalking, child porn marketing and several others.
WHAT’S SO DARK ABOUT THIS DARK WEB?
Activities of the dark web are kept secret, therefore the reason for the criminal activities it’s used for. Users are able to hide their identity. Now don’t think this a reason to embark on a criminal journey because it sounds a bit fascinating, there are lots of online security police forces out there in the deep web to spot your actions before you conceal your identity at the dark web level.
So don’t think accessing the “invisible web” gives you perfect anonymity.

HOW THE DARK WEB IS ACCESSED
The dark web can only be accessed by specific softwares requiring configurations and strong access , most recognized site is the popular high-profile network, Tor. The tor dark web is also recognized as “onionland”. Note that using the Tor doesn’t guarantee 100 percent security.
The good benefits of the dark web is that you get to explore more of the internet, be kept anonymous, help government agencies to whistleblow and still be kept annonymous,i.e protecting your identity. But then the minus outweighs the good benefits so it’s advisable one should keep off.
In conclusion, NOTE that this article is not intended to lead you on to an illegal road, but rather, to enlighten you on what the dark web is all about with reasons to keep off.
