CYBERFUCK THIS PART 2: A STEEMIT EXCLUSIVE CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE STORY

in #cyberpunk7 years ago (edited)

Welcome back, rebels. If you're just now joining the story, make sure to read part one of the story here!

You made up your mind. You don't have much else to lose at this point, and this is the first documented act of destruction in recent memory. If you can get a closer look, maybe find out what is going on, then you'll know if this is a flight or fight situation.

Rising slowly, you peek around the edge of your cubicle, peering around the tangle or Troll hair and Lego buildings. It's empty. Quiet. Wrong. Even at this hour, there's usually at least a few late night burners trying to eek in some extra work. Your monitor blips and your vacation time starts counting, but you already committed to this. Today, Dave Hollits does...something, at least!

You move across the floor with none of the speed and grace of a leopard and peer out the rain slick window, taking out your Small Personal Computer and tapping on Lisa's face to call her. Maybe she's caught some of the holonews vids, or some "An" Cap group made another declaration of war. It chimes for a moment, then cuts quiet. Sighing, you tap her face again. Chimes. Chimes.

"Dave? Aren't you working?"
"Hi doll-er, Lisa. Did you catch the news at all?"
"What? No. Dave, what's going on? Are you wasting more of your vacation time again?"

You try to wipe the window from your side, but no luck.

"No, uh...I'm on lunch. Listen, something happened at work. I think I might be moving to another department! Real exciting right? Anyways, I might be later than normal getting home."
"OK dear. Well, just stay busy. I'll leave you something for when you get home. Bye."

It's apparent that you can't get a decent view from here, but you can make out a few things. First, there's smoke rising down below, some dark air like one of those old cars. Second, it occurs to you that the power seems to be out on the block - not even the Gettit and Go across the street seems to be open. It's a lonely scene of nothing but two streetlights straining to pierce the smoke in vain, and the rest is dark.

Standing there, in the dark and the quiet, you almost start to forget that you decided to do something. At that moment, you get just the reminder you need - above the soft rain drops on the window, you hear a rapid, muffled thumping, then a loud scream! Then another odd thumping. Is that a gun?!

You instinctively take cover as this knowledge hits you. You remember the Good Citizen Education you received growing up. Guns have been outlawed for nearly 50 years in order to better defend those who live in the Conglomerate of United Nations for Trade. firearms were banned for all occasions, including hunting or sport. Active military and licensed Police mercenary forces were allowed access to enforce peace and ensure the safety of citizens. So that either means that the police or military is raiding Sinclair, or...some street rubbish whacko had gotten their hands on the means to murder in mass.

For a long moment, you sit there clutching your legs, watching the ocher sky simulate clouds. No more gun fire comes from below. Neither do the police, or the military, or MegaBicep, or anyone. Finally you stand and look outside again.

You can make out a figures opening the back of the van far below as you crane your neck. It's impossible to see what they are doing, but after a moment you here a loud hum. They're erecting some sort of pole?

Decision Two

Head down stairs. Whoever they are, you can't see from here. If you really are going to take action, you need to at least know who these people are. It's absurd, but the thought crosses your mind that maybe you'd like to stick it to Sinclair yourself. No, that's crazy talk. Right?

Burn it all down.

Yup, need more intel to decide if we wanna start kicking some ass or not. Decision Two!

I gotta go with Decision Two as well. Go down and stealthily check out these new people.

Gotta see who you're dealing with.
haha, decision 2 for me.

Two for sure, this is the first time in the dreary shit life of Dave Hollis that anything remotely interesting has happened. It would practically be criminal NOT to investigate. Plus, I agree with @Sammosk in the end, we got to burn. this. fucker. down.

Decision Three

Call the Sinclair employee line and see if they can route security here. It'll cost you your next few blocks of payment, but it could save your life!

Decision Four

There's no sense staying here out in the open with that thing coming right up the side of the building. Go look for other employees, grab some soycoffee from the break room, hide in a meeting room, and wait for this whole thing to blow over.

I probably think too much, but we have already established that our guy is not the "go check it out" type.

Decision One

Go back to your desk. You were wrong. This is definitely NOT your problem, and besides...you don't get hazard pay if you are on vacation.
