The bird who saved a family
This amazing story happened in Australia in 2013. Sam and Cameron Bloom were an ordinary couple raising their three boys and having a usual lifestyle in Sydney's suburbs. Everything changed when the family went on vacation to Thailand. While enjoying drinks on a roof-top terrace overlooking Ban Krut Beach, Sam Bloom leant against the railing and had a fatal fall. She broke her spine and became paralyzed from her chest down. Returning home wasn't easy. Sam felt useless and miserable.
One day, Sam's 11-year old son Noah spotted an injured chick of a magpie lying alone in a carpark. He brought the bird home and the magpie quickly became part of the family. They called the bird Penguin and slowly nursed her back to health. The bird appeared in their life just the right time. Sam felt useful again, she had someone to look after. Penguin lifted up the family spirit and made all of them a bit happier.
The Blooms never intended to lock up Penguin. She flew in and out of the house as she pleased. Penguin participates in all the family's activities: from cleaning teeth to doing sports and snuggling in bed.
Penguin has her own instagram account and attracted 129 000 followers: https://www.instagram.com/penguinthemagpie/
I liked the pictures where the bird was eating out of the food and then standing on the side of the toilet. If only we could teach birds how to go in toilets instead of on swing sets.
Yes, that would be great
