While economies of scale can play a role in reducing these costs, they are rarely leveraged in the industry today.
Skills: Assessing the origin and value of the car requires specialist knowledge. This is very important when the car is purchased on the secondary market, because the vehicle needs to be inspected by expert mechanics and all documentation needs to be verified.

The barriers discussed above prevented the majority of investors and car enthusiasts from participating in invoiced car markets. Even for wealthy investors, however, the current market features high transaction fees and limited options for diversification:

High transaction fees: Transaction costs are driven by two main factors-non-transparency and illiquidity. For each vehicle, prospective buyers need to perform costly due diligence process to verify the origin of the car. Lack of transparency in scrape existing market beliefs, which means that documentation needs to be independently verified. Additionally, billed cars are often sold at auctions or through private sales, which makes it difficult to accurately ensure the current market value of the vehicle. Ultimately, this leads to an opaque, liquid market, hurting both buyers and sellers.
Limited diversification: An invoiced car must be purchased directly, which is in stark contrast to most other asset classes where fractional ownership is possible. Even a relatively prosperous investor cannot afford to have many vehicles invoiced, and thus exposed to greater risk due to the low level of diversification.
