RE: @curie has supported you - You might want to consider a witness vote!

in #curie7 years ago (edited)

Kinda shameless to force our hand this way, don't you think? I didn't vote for any witness and maybe because I still don't know what that is all about. I never knew the curie upvote came with a price. Don't be this way, this behavior is everything against the idea that I'd have of a witness.... (for what that idea is worth, not knowing anything about it)
Don't get me wrong... I love what curie is doing for the little people. But this should grow naturally... You want voters that are naturally inclined to vote and not shamed into voting... my 2 cents..

Sort:

Price? Every user gets 30 votes to allocate to witnesses .. and they don't cost you a thing. Witnesses are crucial to keeping steemit up and running as they process the blockchain... and we desperately need more active witnesses in the top 20 like @curie. I would also point out that currently it costs a witness ~$440 per month to run a witness server.

If you care about steemit and want it to continue then I highly recommend you read up on witnesses, what they do, who they are etc etc and cast some votes. To few steemit users vote on witnesses.. and without active witnesses the blockchain wont get processed and steemit will stop functioning and then this party is over.

I know I haven't explained it very well but I highly recommend you find out more about witnesses and vote on the ones that really care and contribute to the community. Here are some posts that explain what a witness is quite well:

https://steemit.com/witness-category/@someguy123/seriously-what-is-a-witness-why-should-i-care-how-do-i-become-one-answer

https://steemit.com/steem/@steemitguide/steemitguide-what-is-a-exactly-is-a-steem-witness-and-why-every-user-should-vote

I hope this helps provide you with some greater understanding of why witnesses are so important to be voted for.. That being said, don't feel compelled to vote for @curie .. do some investigating and choose the witnesses that you feel would do the best job and vote for them, just don't let your votes go unused! :)

@fiftysixnorth while I completely agree with you in regards to the good that @curie does, I do think the objection here is the abusive manner that this author has employed to call upon those who have benefited from @curie's work to vote for their witness. And I agree with that sentiment very much.

While I would support anyone voting @curie for witness. I will not be supporting @steemitcommunity's witness because of this distasteful behaviour. I take that stand with considerable reluctance as I would like to support @paulag

I'm sorry you feel the post to be 'abusive' and 'distasteful', thank you for your comments.

I get that, though personally I don't think @curie should be punished for that. I was more responding to the fact that @r00sj3 said she hasn't voted for any witnesses yet or understands what its about. I found it a good opportunity to inform on what witnesses do :)

I wouldn't dare to presume to tell anyone who they should vote for.

I think I made it pretty clear, I wont withdraw my support of curie over this author's ill-conceived post. I will of his witness though even though it means not supporting someone I would dearly love to support.

Thank you, that helps a lot! Spending a lot of time on "good content" doesn't leave me much time to investigate the fundamentals it is built on. This made it much easier! I will look into it!

I know what you mean, it took me quite some time before I actually looked into it myself, but then I discovered that it is quite important. I hope these links helps :)

Thank you @fiftysixnorth. I also did not understand witnesses... I will be digging in, learning and participating now.

@abh12345 thank you for getting my attention on this witness topic.

No problem, its a topic well worth getting familiar with.

Thank you for your comments and the links provided.

To be clear, this is @abh12345 making this post and not @curie. Curie does not now, nor ever will, ask authors for anything in return for the upvotes. You should of course make your own determination on who to vote for, and I would certainly hope in any case that you wouldn't vote for someone just because another user told you to. Cheers

Thanks for clarifying that! :)

thank you @carlgnash for making it clear that this tag spamming post is not sanctioned by Curie... the only thing this post deserves is being flagged into oblivion. This is disgusting

I hope someone larger flags the heck out of this for the tag spam as well as the bribery attitude. It reflects poorly on curie as a project and certainly undermines everything the project was supposed to stand for. With the line at the end, it seems like he is trying to sell his own project on curie's reputation as well.

Do you think my post falls into one of these categories?

Now check your most recent resteem and check the list again.

While I ask for support, there are no ramifications if this doesn't happen. In other words, you do not need to upvote/resteem/comment/follow myself or curie for anything in return.

However, asking for resteems/votes to gain entry into a competition is 'spam or abuse'.

Thank you for drawing my attention to this, I will make my way over to your resteem to inform them, or shall i just 'hope someone larger flags the heck out of this'.

That's a loaded swagbag he got there! 💰

I'm still waiting for a reply here from this Danish lady, not holding my breath though.

Being able to vote for witnesses imo is fundamentally important aspect of community. Especially one that functions sustainably. It is up to individuals to get involved at this level. @beeyou has started an awesome initiative to help everyone understand and get involved with witnesses link

Personally, i see this content as valid information. Very much worthy of contemplation and consideration. No shaming here. Your life! Your choice. If you have been an @curie vote recipiant, congratulations!

Wishing all the best to you 🌸🌹🌸🌹

Maybe people aren't here for the overall community, but just to blog some content and enjoy their own mini community? They might not think about politics and not read the whitepaper. It is a sign that Steemit is growing as a platform beyond the early adaptors.

Therein lies the pickle!

My English isn't good enough to get what you exactly mean here ;) Is it a bad thing that people are not here for the community?

This is a good question @r00sj3! It is always your choice. But, i think beeyou probably answers that in her post better that i will. Though, if not for the steem platform there will be no community. So then, i feel personally to have our communities with the larger whole it is my due diligence to choose witnesses that can run the platform well. And, to me that makes me care who's on this list! If you like @curie votes they also are now in a tricky spot because they need delegations to do their usual voting. They've lost their place, as i understand, in ranks. Personally, i think it is an issue that there are so many steemians that have not taken time to vote for witnesses. But,learning and choosing witnesses does come with responsibility. Best to discuss it with other steemians you know and trust.

"It is your choice. But...." -> You know what they say about that, right?
For now, I'll leave it to the people that know better what is going on... I'd like to pick mine, but I just know too little atm. And to be honest, I have other things that need my attention more than a community that will continue without me anyway. That doesn't mean I don't care... it is just that timing isn't right.
When I make my pick, I want to be comfortable with my choice. I really appreciate what curie is doing, but there might be less "famous" witnesses that deserve a vote too. I don't know if there are witnesses focussing on the technical side of everything...That is how little I know. But that would be something I'd like to figure out before I make my pick.
I just don't like the pressure of "participating" in the community. Each to their own... Like mentioned multiple times before by others, people have their own reasons to behave&participate the way they do on steemit. Being dragged into this witness discussion just because my content gets rewarded and I haven't picked my witness yet wasn't what I was ready for. Good that you are so passionate about the platform and witnesses yourself... Just don't tell me that I should too, I become recalcitrant in that case.

Hi @yogajill. I appreciate your mention here. The few that do visit my blog are the friends I’ve made on here and I appreciate my new friend sharing my post link. ❤️

I completely agree with you. Everyone is welcomed to make their own witness decision. We should also understand the roles of a witness if we want this platform to succeed and only way we can do so together is to take the steps to learn about witnesses.

I am happy for everyone that received a curie upvote because their quality post deserved it. They shouldn’t feel that they have to vote for curie as a witness but I would hope many would pay it forward. Support the people that once supported you or perhaps mentor or support newbies on here. There are plenty of ways to pay it forward and perhaps many on the list are already doing so in their own way.

Please note to anyone reading: I have never received a curie upvote. In fact, @beeyou is a team account and excluded from curie support. That doesn’t mean I don’t see the support they give to the community so they have my small SP witness vote.

Yes you are perfectly entitled to say so, and I expect more comments like this.

The @curie upvote DOES NOT come with a price.

I am not part of @curie's witness, I just think it's a great project that has supported so many.

And so for the 1% who think this is 'shameless', i'm willing to take that hit for highlighting their need for support while bid-bots and shit content rules the roost.

Thank you for being honest.

I get that you want to generate traffic and that that is the reason of putting all the names there.
But I think you could have done that by not making any difference between people that did and did NOT vote for curie as a witness. Like I said... I still don't know enough about steemit to know the impact of my vote for a certain witness (I might have lived under a rock ;)). I agree that ** content rules steemit atm, but why not make that vision part of your campaign!?

The people that have voted already do not need to notified that @curie needs help.

I suggest you do spend a little time researching into what the witnesses do for the blockchain - they are the reason for its continued existence, for one.

@curie are a team dedicated to surfacing exceptional content, you are one of the people who have provided this content in the past. If they are to continue doing this, they need help.

Again, apologies if you think my approach was not the best method, I am only trying to do what I think is best for the future of this platform.
