Make money of curation with ease! Join my curation trail on steemauto.com. Learn why in this post.
If you want to have a revenue stream from your SP holdings but you do not want to lease your SP out then curation trails are for you. Special services, like steemauto.com, provide you an opportunity to sign up for someones curation trail and your account will automatically follow the upvotes that the trail leader makes. At the same time your steempower remains your and available for you to use - you can upvote posts as usual while earning some side money. If trail leader is successful in earning curation rewards you account will also take on part of the action. That is you should not expect to get the same results but you might be quite close.
What trail should I sign up for?
One of the common answers says that you should look at the popular trails as people discovered them as the most profitable ones. This is only partially true, since your position in the trail matters. The closer you are to the trail leader the higher your rewards will be. Hence, it is good to see these trails with hundreds people but you will not get much by signing up for these.
The better answer is to go for yet undiscovered trails. This way you will be much closer to the trail leader and you will likely get more rewards. The only problem is to find these reward making trails. There are thousands of trails available and I doubt you have time to go thru these and evaluate. But there is a solution: sign up for my trail on steemauto here. If link does not work - then go and search my account there by yourself. Please note that you will need to link you account with steemauto in order to use its services.
Why is your trail better that others?
Three reasons:
- The trail is small, and that is probably the most important reason in cooperation with,
- relatively high curation rewards per SP that I use (check my curation rewards and divide by the SP I have), and
- I do not use that much SP, so more rewards are going to be generated by your trail votes for you.
By the way, you find someone with higher curation rewards per SP used - let me know in the comments. I will certaily award you with my 100% upvote (which is not much :) ).
What are the risks?
There are almost no risks for you. Steemauto will only require you to provide posting permission thru steemconnect so your keys are safe. You do not have to pay for the service and you can opt out at any moment you like.
Any caveats?
Due to the nature of curation rewards small accounts may find it troubling to get any rewards at all. My suggestions are the following:
Assume that you follow my trail and my trail only, then you should expect to get reasonable rewards if your SP is above 100 SP and you do not restrict the voting power when folloing my trail. If, for instance, you have 1000 SP then you may restrict the voting power to 10% and you still should expect to get reasonable curation rewards. But if you account has only 30 SP you may not see that many curation rewards as for some posts these may be below the payout threshold and steemit just does not pay these.
Your voting power may go down significantly. To prevent that you can use the limiter provided by steemauto and you will maintain any level you want at the expense of smaller curation rewards (as your account will miss out on some upvoting opportunities).
I would like to delegate SP to you
Thank you for your interest!
Please read my post here for terms of the delegation. If you are agree with terms then proceed with your delegation.
Thank you for your delegation!
I will authorize bot to pay you the interest daily. Some test payments may come first. Let me know if anything happens with the payments in the future so I can investigate.
Alright I had some troubles delegating. How much did I end up delegating to you? Steemd says it is 35? https://steemd.com/@umich
Did you get 35?
Thanks for your reply. I think there is a problem. The numbers do not add up.
I run the code and I got the following as a result:
[{'id': 765738, 'delegator': 'schubes', 'delegatee': 'umich', 'vesting_shares': '10207.066610 VESTS', 'min_delegation_time': '2018-03-16T03:19:21'}]
Which says that you only delegated about 10k vests that is about 5 SP according to "steem_per_mvests" parameter from https://steemd.com/
I think you misunderstood how the delegation tool works (I did not use it myself so I dot fully understand it either). So far as I can see if you delegate one amount and then delegate another amount then the first amount is ignored while the second amount becomes the total amount of delegation. Hence, I can conclude that you do not delegate twice but instead you update your delegation.
You can check here that the delegated amount is 5 SP. Would you be able to raise it to at least 25 SP?
My account says it is delegating 15 SP. Unless do you think that since I sent 15 and then later 5. It stayed delegating the 5 SP and started the undelegation process for the remaining 10.
Yes, that's how delegations work, if you change the amount then you're editing the current delegation and the difference goes into the 7 day return process.
You can see your current delegations at https://steemworld.org/@schubes if you go to 'Delegations (Out)'
In this example you started with 10SP, edited it to 15SP, then the second edit down to 5SP, so as I understand it 10SP will return to your account in 7 days and 5SP is delegated to umich as of this post.
Thank you for clarification!
I agree with logic presented by schrosct. I got 5 SP that are available for use in upvoting (and I can get some profit from these sp) and 10 SP are frozen for 7 days and are not available to me.
Thanks @schrosct. Alright then I don't have any more than 5 SP to delegate at the moment. If you could just let me see how the process works with 5 as my SP comes out of other delegations I can eventually delegate around 100 SP over the course of around a month.
Sure. Let's do it for 5 SP. The main problem why I want a 25 SP as a lower threshold is that for smaller amounts rounding errors will perturb the percentage rate, i.e. interest=5*0.001096=0.00548 but due to rounding only 0.005 SP are paid.
Decided to powerup. You should have 25SP delegated now
Thanks for notifying me! Bot will automatically adjust the payout.
You have collected your daily Power Up! This post received an upvote worth of 0.38$.

yes good

You're doing much better than me on curation, I'm going to follow you for a bit and see how I do :D
I'm going to keep my regular fanbase and switch curation to you. God speed.
You are welcome! Please note that for an adequate performance you need to have more than 100 SP for votes (or 200 - 300 would work even better). I also suggest to use the "Auto" weights where basically your vote is the same percentage as mine.
Note that the strategy may drain you voting power. If you do not want this you can set up a limit at steemauto at the expense of missed opportunities.
You may also want to check https://steemd.com/@umich from time to time to see that your upvotes are actually posted in the trail. Just click at any upvote that I made.
Yep, I'm using the scaling weight with 100% of what you put in which seems to be a standard 12% so far.
I'm a little under the 100SP after some delegations, but I'll toss my hat in the ring anyway. With the voting percentage difference right now we seem to be voting at about the same vests.
I've been using https://steemworld.org/@schrosct to track things since it updates in real time :)
Ok, I see. Thanks for the link! Nice site that allows you to see your daily SP rewards - neat! But I do not really get whether these rewards are predictions of current day upvotes of if it just a slice of the rewards from a week ago. Do you know that?
Low SP may lead to rounding loss when steem just eats your rewards completely if they are small enough.
I think at the top the stats are real, like last 7 days should be your various amounts claimed totaled and rounded up to the nearest cent.
If you use their "Coming Author Rewards" section then that should be a prediction. There's a spot in the 'Settings' tab under the 'Feed' that lets you change the 'Preview Type' of either including or excluding curation from your author reward estimates.
I haven't seen anything that gives an estimate based on pending curation if that's what you mean.
Yep, I understand the rounding loss possibility, which is actually why I'm hopeful for your trail to be better for me. Some of the others were voting at like 2% which is just taking up space in my bandwidth at that point. I'm impressed by your numbers and surprised that 12% isn't rounding off too much for you, but it means I was probably wasting a % of my vote in other places.
Thank you for a detailed explanation!
Yep, I would like to see pending curation rewards. There is https://www.steemstats.com/ that can do it, but I do not like that it does not aggregate rewards from different posts.
At current SP level I do experience noticeable rounding loss but I plan to raise my SP level over time to minimize it.
If I'm reading steemstats correctly and that's my estimated curation to the far right of the 'recent activity' page, under 'watched interactions' then I think your genius just earned me more in curations in one day than like two weeks of my normal activity.
mfw,
Yes, you are correct. The amounts of SP (typically from 0 to 0.010) are estimated curation rewards.
You are welcome!
Do you already have some Steemonians for your trail?
I hope so, cause already before your post I did the math. And you indeed have one of the highest curation rewards. Even higher as me and I won a contest 😀
I do have 9 following me as of now. This is not a big number so there are still plenty opportunities for more people to join and get rewards.
Yep, that is true. I tried to participate in this contest but since I do lease SP quite frequently I'm always disqualified.
I thought that the contest would perhaps be a nice marketing tool if I would win. But I don't think it really helped me. So I wouldn't suggest to get rid of your SP delegation for that purpose.
9 is already a nice start. Even more important than the number of people in a curation trail is the total amount of SP. And perhaps also the sequence of upvoting.
Do you think you are somehow able to measure the increase of your own curation rewards?
I have the same thoughts regarding the contest: I think that it may help me get more followers. And it would be sweet to win 1 sbd) But I agree with you that it can also be relatively useless.
I hope that I can attract more people to the curation trail. Currently, my voting strategy involves quite a few upvotes so not all accounts are able to keep up (voting power limits). I also use 12% weight, so not all accounts are able to instantly vote due to combination of voting power issues and level of SP. Hence, the trail is not heavy at all right now and there are opportunities left for making curation rewards for new members.
I thought about that and there is a way to do that. I have a script that calculates my curation rewards, so technically I can also calculate the curation rewards coming from the trailing accounts and the rewards they are getting. It would be interesting to see how much they get and how much more I get. Yet there is not much practical sense in this right now. I think that increase in my rewards is going to be relatively small. For the trailing accounts the increase should be significant (since most of them initially have tiny rewards) but it only applies to accounts with reasonable amount of SP at disposal (say 100 or more).
Accounts with less than 50 SP are not going to get much rewards just because steem blockchain rounds the curation rewards with precision of 0.001 SP. Hence if you earn less than that you get nothing. That is pretty sad.
To have a reasonable benefit an account should have 100 SP or more and do not use multipliers for the weight of the trailing vote. (i.e. 12% vote for my 12% vote).
As I try to measure quite some of my statistics, I think we can be 99% certain that winning the curation league did not really bring in New followers.
Firstly I didn't see a sudden increase. And secondly I have the same number of followers as you. While I have written more posts and comments.
So you could even say, that your strategy works better 😀
Then you brought me at another interesting point. Your script to calculate curation rewards. That is really valuable information, at least I would say so. If you share it in a post, you probably get like no reward. So I suggest to never share it.
This feels like a strange thing, that it might be better to keep knowledge secret then sharing. Is that the way Steemit is supposed to work?
I think I have a moderate flow of new subscribers due to the upvotes. So upvoting a lot gives you this small advantage. But overal I think that my posts do not get enough exposure and I do not get an adequate interation with people.
I do not think that this is a particular feature of steemit. It is just up to you whether you want to share your scripts. I also believe that in some time all this be worthless.
Hi @umich. I also run a curation trail and am interested in potentially following your trail, with our trail @cryptkeeper17 on steemauto. You can get back to me via comment here on steemit @cryptkeeper17, or discord cryptkeeper17#6637. Thanks a lot, keep up the great work!
Hi @cryptkeeper17, you are welcome to join the trail!
I do not know all the details how steemauto works for trails, so let me know if action from me is needed.

Why you keep voting me repeatedly even using bots?
I'd like to express gratitude :)
But I wanna know the reason why :)
Hi! Cause you are a good author and upvoting your posts is the right decision from the curation standpoint.
Thank you!
it's honor for me.
thank you
Is this steemauto safe? we got hack by a system like this last week... how can we know that it is safe ect.?
I'm not the owner of steemauto and I can not guarantee its safety. I had no issues with them so far.
You limit the damage by allowing them to only use your posting privilege.
Thanks for your reply !
