Ok, so the last time I tried playing with molds, it turned out to be a huge mess.

But I tried again and actually had some success!

I first collected my supplies. I'm using palm wax again...

Wax dyes again. This time I used one square of each color.
I didn't start out planning to layer, but after pouring the yellow wax, I decided I wanted a much taller candle.

Mold, wick and popsicle stick. I have since learned that popsicle sticks are very versatile when making candles. I can use them as a cheap wick holder and I can use it to mix the dyes in a hot wax. As well as a few other things!

I know it's hard to see in this photo, but I'm using wick stickers to hold the wick in place on the bottom. This MOSTLY works well enough, but a wick will fall over once hot wax is poured, so you still need some sort of wick holder at the top.

Mold putty!!!!

Since this was the reason using a mold didn't work the last time, I made sure I had it in place this time!!!

Again placing aluminum foil in case of a leak.
Sorry my foot is in the photo. I tried to switch out the photos, but my phone wouldn't let me.

Melting the wax. Now, since I'm using layers, I had to melt small amounts at a time and color each one individually. You must clean your pot each time! You want to make sure to wipe out any remaining hot wax with a paper towel, then wash out any remaining dye with warm soapy water.

You must let each layer cool before you pour the next one. I love seeing the crystallization on each layer!

Wallah! I did it! I gave it 2 hours to cool and then it pretty much slid right out of the mold! I found the layers to be interesting.... The yellow layer has a bit of crystallization around the outside that you can see but not feel. The blue has a layer of crystallization that you can see AND feel!. The red layer has no crystallization around the outside, just on the top!
Ok... maybe I'm just easily amused...
