Curation - Finding that Undervalued Content
It’s tough to find the good stuff, and just what is the definition of ‘Undervalued Content’?
That would be different in everyone’s mind. I tend to place it in terms of size of content / quality and to some extent how small the pending reward is.
Does it tell me anything I didn’t know previously, and does it make me want to stop my ‘scanning habit’ and really read what the author has written?
Since HF22, we are all quite aware that curation rewards are much higher than previously.
In the past I have used a curation tool but to find scammers (thanks @daan), and bid bot abusers rather than quality content in an effort to combat bullshit posts.

More recently I have used the same filters to find articles that I feel are undervalued.
The filters I use can be customised to what you like. I personally use ‘more than 500 words’, ‘low pending rewards of less than $0.50’, ‘minimum 10 images’ , look over them and if they do add some value in my opinion, resteem them, add a 50% vote (custom your own filters and rewards) and a comment.

You will still find lots of crappy posts even using these kinds of filters. On top of that, foreign language posts (I’m a lazy Englishman, don’t understand anything else so won’t vote, apologies), lots of spammy contests and many crypto posts.
I can generally pick one out using this criteria, and that enough for me. If there’s nothing good enough I general increase the ‘create before (minutes)’, to around 4000 or so.
Surprisingly, there are new people joining and as we already know these people get little attention due to their low SP and follower count.

I aim to do one a day with the aid of this tool. Are you going to join me and do the same? You should, and here’s why.
If you want some incentive to do this then let me give you a scenario.
If you find something good that meets YOUR ‘value’ criteria, has a poor rewards (one very recently had a 1c pending reward), then vote it, resteem it then maybe it will noticed by @curie, @acidyo or another manual curator.
YOU are going to get some nice curation rewards as you were there first, adding your vote. That curation reward may be MORE than the value of your vote.
The author is going to get some rewards that are more than they can find by scouring the streets looking for coins that nobody wants to pick up, and we may have another person willing to invest into STEEM as they feel valued.
Quite often, intro posts are noticed and then writers are abandoned. It’s no wonder STEEM is considered a ‘closed shop’ outfit.
Sustained use of the method above of finding ‘the good stuff’ may overcome this perception. If they write well, I’m quite happy to give them my vote, add my encouragement, resteem their work and add them to the @chops.support account NO MATTER how low their SP is.
If I find someone consistently writing great material, I WILL follow them and support them.
Think about it people. If we all do this then maybe some more value may be added to the blockchain, and maybe those people will buy STEEM and treat this place as an investment vehicle.

@slobberchops, I really appreciate the feature! Not going to lie, it feels damn good to hear my content is worth curating, but rewards aside, engagement and encouragement like this is definitely enough to keep me personally invested in this platform (and not just with the SP I traded some Eth for ha).
Also, definitely will be checking out that @curie tool you used to find my post in the first place. One of my objectives as part of my STEEM experience is to curate/support creatives and content creators, in particular other photographers.

This is what I like to hear! While some people were used to their old strategies in #oldsteem, I believe those who step up their content game will have a much better chance to get noticed now while the active stake is looking for worthy content more than ever. All this while the price is going under the radar and without the influx of bigger audience who've yet to realize what's taking place here. Now might be the golden season for creators to earn a decent amount of STEEM which will be much harder to earn in the future once there are more users competing over the rewardpool.

You know it's hard to find people who can write effectively, and I see you have your own blog.
Can I ask, what drew you to Steemit? I tend to be a little blinkered being somewhat committed to draw the token out of the earth and propel the coin up the crypto carts so don't see the perception from an outsiders point of view.
I get the idea that it has a bad reputation and that there is a stigma that there are too many rules. While this is true, you just need to understand that it is a blogging platform. If you do just that, with your content, there will never be a problem.
Too many have tried to scam, pillage, rape the reward pool as as it is a monitory property we are all very protective about it.
There's nothing more I would like all of us to do than tell all out friends to try this out, without the proviso, 'there's money to be made'. I have said it before, but McDonalds burger flipping makes more than here.
I can see your post has now got some attention, and that's wonderful as I feel I have done my job and raised your profile.

TL;DR - The internet is noisy AF, and I wanted to try out a new way to share my content, whether it's brand new stuff or repurposing of my already existing body of work. The rewards seemed like a cool bonus if they happen— I was more interested in testing out a new community and platform.
Less short backstory -
I'm a noob. To all of this. A friend turned me on to Bitwage a while back, but I only recently signed up. While waiting for my first Salary (just a portion!) > Bitwage > Coinbase transfer to go through so that I'd have to Eth and Bitcoin to play with (or just HODL), I fell down a rabbit hole allll about earning crypto. Realizing mining wasn't going to be a thing I could possibly do, and day trading doesn't interest me, I'm pretty sure I just searched that: "How to earn cryptocurrency without mining"
Blogging via STEEM showed up as an option not too deep into my search, which, being in the social media and content marketing world (day job!), piqued my curiosity. As you might imagine, shillery abounds, and it wasn't until I read this article that I became convinced that this is a real and valuable platform. This despite, as I'd find later on in my search, the dip in STEEM value since the time when @kadavy wrote that post.
Still, I found the concept super interesting. The concept of getting compensated for the valuable, interesting, and compelling original content you put out without having to crack the magic monetization code or be on assignment? Absurd!
I checked out the posts under new and trending, and between the cookie-cutter prompt posts and the expected set of ... LQ content you'll see on any platform that runs on user contributions, I saw original, HQ content supported by dedicated, meaningful tribes. Then I turned to the #travel and #photography tags and I was intrigued, immediately recognizing Steem (especially the individual tribes and curation efforts) as a way for content creators to amplify their content and simultaneously be a part of/build a community that everyone has a stake in— way more valuable than screaming into the void that is the mainstream social media universe.
Yes, the wait to get signed up (I did not know about steem ninja at the time) was an odd place of friction, especially as someone who basically just stumbled upon STEEM. But hey, I wasn't in any rush.
And that's that, I guess. Not so short, but I hope that answers your Q! 😅
David Kadavy doesn't seem too active anymore, and he seems to be one of these 'make money' kind of people who used to be around but have slipped out now, as the token has reached 17c.
I would never advocate Steemit as a money making place, but in your case.. you already run your own blog so cross-posting is a very good idea.
The tribes are relatively new, but it seems you already discovered them and the use of tags, which is also great.
Hope you settle in, just don't expect too much. Its very easy to get disheartened and think, 'why are they getting more than me'.

That's a good curation tool, I've not seen that before. You work hard at this!
I try to add something, whatever I write, be it this kind of stuff, travel info, hike trails, Urbex creepy houses or gaming tips. I know not everyone does this, nor would I expect them too. That's just me.
A couple of recent ones I have found have powered up. I find this stimulating.. and feel we are making a little progress.

SF4 - I don't think so, some issues for me at the moment about long haul flights, I don't think they will be sorted by November. Hope I get to see UK people again, though, before too long, always good.

Shes out running right now, and last week dragged me to a fell run. I do need to write about that, though I keep saying, 'Is this of any interest to anyone'.., does it add value.., that speech from @starkerz keeps coming back to me, I think you were present too, on minnow-waves audio early this year.
It's curious what adds value for people. Sometimes I put up a small post about a throwaway thing (I think one of them was about fish and chips one time) just so people know I'm still here and it will get lots of engagement!
As I said earlier, your writing is always witty (I love it when you drop a dry sentence in early on ... I can't help grinning to myself and thinking, okay, what's coming?) and your pictures are always a joy.
Sometimes, just offering people a little time out, headspace away from the pressures of the day, a little humour, a reverie over some beautiful landscape or awe-inspiring dereliction is adding value. You're very thoughtful about what you're doing, I'm sure you'll get most things right :)

It's not a new thing, but old utilities sometimes get forgotten. @daan showed me this one a long time ago. I don't know where he dug it up from.

I have heard that more larger accounts are undelegating to the bots and starting to curate. If that is true, I am happy to see it. Maybe, just maybe we can pull out of the death spiral and havoc that the bots brought.
@smartsteem is and for that reason, @therealwolf now has my witness vote. Are the rest going to follow? I applaud him for being a trendsetter and doing something other than what many think has ruined Steemit.
What a great tool! I've never seen this before. I also like that this tool helps me find content that I'm actually interested in. I think that is a concept that got lost on Steemit for the past 2 years. Good content is different for everyone. I might want to hear more about a place, coin, restaurant while to someone else the same post may seem spammy or useless. I think that is why we all have a vote to choose content that hits home to us regardless of what others may think. Thanks for the info on the tool.

I got to start using that, It's always good to give back to the small planktons of STEEM, we all know how it's like at the beginning... not sure what is worse psychologically, starting now getting that one can get lots of STEEM but almost no $ or starting when I started, where STEEM was near ATH and I was making lots of $ but almost no STEEM...
I went ahead and gave the phillipines post an upvote, it wasn't much since I'm out of VP and I have low SP, but it was enough to pump the payout a little
