I met a Maasai in Kenya!
Living a western life one tends to forget that there are people who still live a nomadic lifestyle. The Tanzanian and Kenyan government have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional ways but people have continued their old age costoms.
An Oxfam study has suggested that Maasai could pass on traditional survival skills such as the ability to produce food in deserts and scrublands that could help populations adapt to climate change.
They are considered one of the most tallest people in the world with an average of 6 feet 3 inches. They are well known for their traditional jumping dance. They speak the Maa language and languages of Kenya, Tanzania and English.
There is a lot more to learn about this interesting culture and its history. You can learn more about their clothing, the food they eat and social organization on the sources provided. It was very interesting meeting and shaking the hand of a Maasai.
