The death kiss of prosperity equals gentrification.

Venezia used to be a vibrant harbour town/ port/ crossroads..., way back when.
Somewhere in the 20th century, it ceased to be vibrant.
It turned into a museum of Babylon.
How sad can it has become.
Go there yourselves & one will find out.

Now if this would only be applicable to Venice, it wouldn't be
the end of vibrant city life, as in culture.
Fill in your city of choice...
Paris, London, San Francisco, Barcelona, Tokyo, & many other hotspots of gentrification
come to mind...
Tokyo in particular has a bad taste to it. (Think Fukushima-Daiichi & the Olympic Gamez)

(Just a reminder; Tokyo's (Imperial Palace (of all)) used to be more valuable than California)
