Are Padee, Aceh Traditional Equipment
Hi stemians ..
If stemians visit Aceh, located on the northern tip of Sumatra island, try to go to the villages. In addition to an unspoiled atmosphere, stemians can also recognize the variety of traditional Acehnese equipment. One of them is 'Are Padee', which is still used by the people of Aceh.
Are Padee is a tool to scoop or move the rice from its place to the cooking container. In essence Are Padee is used in people's homes as a means to move rice from there container to another container. Are Padee made of wood and Bamboo stems are large with a diameter of 15-20 cm, height 25-40 cm, the volume of content ranges from 1-1.5 liters. Are Padee generally carved tumpal motif, chevron, double rope and other motifs. Often also found at the end decorated with wood or rattan coil and some are plain without carved and decorated.
Today in almost nonexistent cities we encounter the use of Are Padee made from natural ingredients, as well as in villages that have been much touched by modern equipment. Most of Aree Padee is now made of factory-made metal. The people of Aceh now to meet the needs of household appliances are more consumptive than productive. Then the traditional equipment passed down by the ancestors little by little has begun to be abandoned. I think stemians also understand how a culture is gradually lost. Creativity and self-confidence to show that superior cultural heritage has lost its spirit from our traditional society. If it happens continuously, it is not impossible that Are Padee can be found in museums or art galleries.
