He is one of the main leaders of the Cuban Revolution that overthrew the dictatorial regime of General Fulgencio Batista, successively Prime Minister of the island from February 1959 to December 1976, then President of the State Council of Cuba (Head of State) since the establishment of this function and also chairman of the Council of Ministers (head of government), until his resignation for health reasons in February 2008 [1]. On February 24, 2008, the National Assembly elected his brother Raúl Castro to succeed him as head of state. The latter assumes the interim of power since July 31, 2006. Fidel Castro serves as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, the creation of it in 1965 until April 19, 2011, when Raúl Castro him succeeds this post
