ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018: A summary
ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018: A summary
What a major it has been. So many emotions, upsets, failures, success stories. Now it's time to look back at the past few days and what to take away from them.
North American victory
With a success story unlike most others, North American team Cloud9 has managed to take the title as Major Champion. They came out on top from the most intense game anyone has seen in quite a while. So many clutches and emotions, just barely staying strong. Cloud9 have invested so much into their team play, and they showed they can perform at this Major, beating the world's best teams: SK, Faze, and G2. North American Counter-Strike is finally able to compete against the rest.
You could see they invested a lot of time and effort into creating team play, most of C9's rosters are known for playing Rank S, a PUG service for professional players by ESEA, the dominant third party Matchmaking service in NA. Still, they played for each other, allowing their star players to shine, but still playing off each other.
A underdog story
Quantum Bellator Fire, who went through the open qualifier, has made it all the way to the play-offs. This shows that there is still a lot of talent in the CIS region. They seemingly enjoyed playing in front of the American crowd, and I cannot wait to see them again, competing against the best in the world.
A Superteam that works?
FaZe has managed to fight their way up to the major final, but the trophy slipped out of their hands, getting beaten by Cloud9 in an intense 3 map final with multiple overtimes. The map series concluded on a map that was considered to be one of FaZe's best ones, having a 7-1 scoreline against Cloud9. Inferno is a great map as a decider, since it allows for so many different goals, exquisit strategies, and skillful plays.
It looked good for the European team, after taking Cloud9's map pick, Mirage, with a close 16-14 win. C9 took FaZe's map in return, which was Overpass, by a great margin. Inferno was the most intense map of the series, it kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole duration. With so many adrenaline packed plays from both teams, the economy shifted back and forth and back again. Clutches left and right kept both teams in the match until one of the teams managed to come out on top, in this instant, Cloud9.
