Learn how to code your own blockchain game with CryptoZombies!

in #cryptozombies7 years ago (edited)

Ever since Cryptokitties took the internet by storm, many people have begun to hope for more blockchain-based games in the future. There are currently a few interesting projects in the making, but in this post I want to tell you about a project called Cryptozombies.

Learn how to code your own Ethereum game with CryptoZombies

CryptoZombies is not a game by itself, but it is instead an interactive way to learn how to code on Ethereum. You learn to code in Solidity, the programming language that is used for writing contracts and communicating with the Ethereum network, which should not be too difficult if you are already familiar with a programming language. I'm not really well-educated in programming, but I do have some basic knowledge, and was able to follow the guides with a little bit of help from Google Search at times. However, I would suggest that you have some basic programming knowledge before you jump into CryptoZombies if you want to do it in a reasonable amount of time, and without getting too frustrated and confused.

CryptoZombies work by providing free interactive lessons that will teach you to create your own Zombie game. It has a lot of the same features as Cryptokitties have, such as generating random Zombies that can infect humans to create a new zombie that is a mix of both their DNA (much like breeding in cryptokitties). Right now there are only two lessons, and each should take you between 30 minutes and an hour, but more lessons are on the way!

The lessons are divided into small chapters that each teach you a new concept, and give you a task that you need to complete to show that you understand it. There is a pretty steep learning curve if you don't know much programming, but I'm sure it's okay for those of you who already know another language.

What a lesson looks like.

Could we see a lot of blockchain games in the future?

With tools like this one that teaches people to learn how to code their own blockchain games, then I'm sure we could be seeing a whole lot of cool games in the future. I'm sure we'll be seeing hundreds of cryptokitties clones as time passes, and there are already several of these, and more are on their way.

I think the blockchain has a huge potential for creating very cool games, but I still think we are a while away from seeing any games that are very good. I mean, compared to regular games that run locally on your computer, these are extremely bare-boned, and I don't think would really play Cryptokitties if it had been released on a non-blockchain website that was run locally. However, the blockchain has huge potential to give true ownership to the player, and it is not impossible to create complex games that could be a lot of fun, so there's a huge potential there.

Thanks for reading! I know it's not the type of content most of you are expecting me to post, but I will also be writing about other things that I am interested in besides science, so if you don't care for that, just skip these posts and rather wait for my science posts ;) Oh, and if you want to take a look at my CryptoZombie, follow this link!

Er ny her, liker bloggen din veldig godt! mange interessante innlegg! :) Fulgt og upvoted! :-)

Holy shit dude, this is a game changer, I'm surprised that its for free.

Yeah, I was surprised by this as well! It's a very good tool, and a very fun way to learn compared to regular programming guides.

This is good information @valth, I was thinking of enrolling for a cryptocurrency course later this month, I am a complete noob lol.

Thank you!

If you want to program with crypto and the blockchain, then this is a very good start. The only problem with is so far is that there are pretty few courses, but more will come soon.

More of this please :) I actually read about cryptozombies a couple of days ago. I fiddle around with PHP from time to time, and I will definitely take a look at Solidity. The problem is how to find time for everything :)

Hey, @dieterschneider. I would love to do more blockchain programming posts, but my programming skills are honestly very weak, so I'm not sure it would be entertaining for very long. I have however considered to make an alt account where I could post my progress as my learning Solidity myself, but I'm not sure I have the time to both learn it and write about it. But we'll see :)

Hope you do. I often find it best to learn the basics from "newbies". The professional programmers often leave out important things they take for granted that the beginners know.

I had not thought of that, but that's a good point. It's like that with most things when professionals / knowledgeable people who are not really good teachers end up teaching.

Thanks for this information I would have love to learn this cryptozombies but I don't have much knowledge of programming. I only have a little knowledge of C++ programming language.wil that knowledge help?

Hi, @gimba. C++ will definitely help! If you know some of that, then that should be enough to get you started on the CryptoZombies learning :)

So you are not only expert on bio but also have sound knowledge of cryptozombies for me its will be a steep learning. Thanks for the info and knowing us better understanding about new changes.

Hehe, yeah, I have some (little) experience with programming, but biology knowledge is still by far my main skill.

Free vote for you :)

I see what you're saying, but I think you must have forgotten the vote, because you are not on the voter list!

Good your post

Thank you.

I have started following you please I want us to chat privately

Thanks! You can contact me privately on steem.chat with the same users name as here if you wish.
