A story from German tech news website ComputerBase (https://www.computerbase.de/2018-01/nvidia-geforce-gtx-verkauf-an-spieler/) reports that hardware manufacturer Nvidia is recommending that retailers limit bulk sales of their GeForce GTX graphics cards so they are available for gamers, not just cryptominers.

Nvidia spokesman Boris Böhles reportedly told ComputerBase:

For NVIDIA, gamers come first. All activities related to our GeForce product line are targeted at our main audience. To ensure that GeForce gamers continue to have good GeForce graphics card availability in the current situation, we recommend that our trading partners make the appropriate arrangements to meet gamers’ needs as usual.

The “current situation” Böhles is referring to is the high demand for Nvidia graphic processing units (GPUs) by those using them to mine cryptocurrencies. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 is at the top of this list by Techradar (http://www.techradar.com/news/best-mining-gpu) for best mining GPUs in 2018.

Bulk orders of GPUs have apparently been commonplace in Germany according to ComputerBase:

Order quantities for Radeon RX Vega from five to ten were not uncommon, as dealers told ComputerBase. Inquiries by e-mail, primarily from Eastern Europe and apparently sent to dozens of dealers, would even include requests for orders of various graphics cards in three-digit order of magnitude.
