As many f you have heard, the newest craze to hit the blockchain is Cryptokitties, a game based on blockchain technology that involves buying “cryptokitties” using Ether. Here is a short guide on how to get started.

We named him Urkel due to his bio stating that he is always considered the “Steve Urkel of the group”. So we saw the name fitting. What are these things and what is so special with them?

Crytpokitties is one of the first games to use blockchain technology in this manner, allowing true one-of-a-kind assets to be produced that have real world value. Additionally, the user can breed their “kitties” to create special rare attributes that makes them more valuable. It is an extremely unique principle that makes profiting from “kitty breeding” extremely fun and involving in a game environment.

How do I get started?

*Note - This game requires a computer, laptop or tablet with internet access running desktop version of Chrome or Firefox.

First you need access to Ether (ETH), which is Ethereum cryptocurrency. It can be bought with other cryptocurrencies via a cryptocurrency exchanges such as https://hitbtc.com/?ref_id=5a51a380caa0c or with USD or other fiat currency at https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a245567f522d402e43fbc6d.

Once you have Ether, you need to download Metamask, which is a browser extension that will act as your “wallet” for the game. Metamask can be downloaded here https://metamask.io/ , there is also an installation video that will help you on that site after the install.

Once that is completed, you need to open Metamask in your browser and transfer Ether from your external account to your Metamask wallet.

Lastly, sign up for your Cryptokitties account at https://www.cryptokitties.co/ . Select the button “Click Meow” and follow the instructions.

Buy Your First Cryptokitty

Select “Marketplace” within the game and selected your very first Cryptokitty! There are many different attributes, generations and “cooldown” parameters that makes some kitties worth more than others. That is a more in depth subject that will be covered with a later guide, in which we will cover advanced kitty features, the genome of the kitties DNA and techniques that have made us successful breeders in the kitty world.
