Transition to the Decentralised Age - Cast your Votes!

Cryptocurrencies - what the..?!

These are very exiting times to be alive. That is what I personally concluded in the last few weeks, while I have been introduced in the world of cryptocurrency. I have become obsessed with it, constantly thinking about it, devouring any information that I can get my hands on and have literally had sleepless nights over the future. Lying awake till 4 A.M., grinding on about the huge potential everywhere and my place in it. I know, at point of writing, that crypto's at this stage are not for everybody. The tech-barriers can be quite high and I assume they will reduce as the space develops itself in the future, and more user-friendly applications and platforms launch.

Self-empowerment

The reason for my crazy enthusiasm is quite clear - self-empowerment. I had not known this feeling for a long time as I dropped out of university in the first year to go to work and travel the world. It is only a few years later, that I decided to pick it up again because what I was doing at the time wasn't making the most out of life.  I wanted to learn a skill or a trade, so to speak, to develop myself further in a direction that was satisfying and fulfilling to me.

Now, 4 years after that important decision, I'm a graduate civil engineer, specialised in harbour, coast and dredging, seriously loving my job and the world of (international) possibilities it provides. The last few years of my life couldn't have gone any faster. I realised I wanted to do more and get more out of life. Don't get me wrong, doing nothing can be quite satisfying and I've most certainly had my share of this.

So, you changed your life, now what

It would be safe to assume that I like to think of myself as someone who cares about this planet and I've always been astonished with the way corporations wreck it in terms of profit. A lot of things in this world smell awfully wrong to me and I am baffled by the amount of global segregation. I believe that this segregation is exactly what keeps us from evolving as we are being governed and thus, ultimately, powerless.

I also believe, that where there is darkness, there's light. With infinite new possibilities for future developments there's so much hope for the future, it's got me pumped. I am certainly no expert in this field and I'm just trying to express myself as to gain insight and possibly reach out to other people and hopefully arouse some interest.

At this point, I was introduced to cryptocurrencies through a solid friend who had hyped it so much that he couldn't stop talking about it (we are now both having sleepless nights). Obviously, I had heard of the bitcoin hype years ago but I was one of those losers that never gave it much thought. Not much of an entrepreneur, really. This friend of mine made me catch the virus and I've never been more happy about getting infected.

The decentralisation of the new economy

As I understand it right now (been doing research on it for up to two months), the crypto-space is being colonised by hundreds of developers. Their products are versatile, from complete platforms to specific decentralised applications (DApps) on these platforms that cater to our needs. They are (or can become) better versions of things we use in everyday life right now. The battle is bloody and sometime competition is tough but if you do your research, you will soon be overwhelmed with projects and technologies that you like and that you'd want to support by investing in it. That's you casting your vote right there.

Capital flows and exponential growth

As the crypto currency market becomes more established (20-08, $145 billion) and more crypto currencies gain a larger community and fanbase, the market will grow even further. The market is so small compared to what it will be in 10 years from now. On top of that, most platforms, if not all, have devised smart incentives (monetisation) for people to hold the coin and spend it within the ecosystem. Think of all the people in the world that are clueless of cryptography and crypto currencies, think of all the money that is invested in other markets, such as real estate, travel, gambling, regular bank accounts - you name it. In the future, vast amounts of money are going to be invested in this gold rush. Huge potential and huge snowball effect if you get in early.

Why did I get involved

Getting involved in crypto feels more like voting and standing up for myself than submitting a ballot for any type of election has ever done. Obviously, I've made other choices in life that I'm proud of and I certainly feel happy with my life. This, however, makes me feel part of something big. A global movement that is necessary for the well-being of the planet. A shift in consciousness, paired with the re-configuration of wealth and power is happening now and we can all be a part of it.

So my advise is, get involved with crypto's! Find platforms that appeal to you and become an investor, not just for the amazing potential in terms of money, but also to cast your vote for the future, which will benefit us all.

I've actually never much cared for giving my opinion (and certainly not on social media) but as I've said, this post represents me voting for steemit, the future of this platform and what it represents. Times have certainly changed for me.

Safe.

P.S. I wrote this story to practice getting my mind wrapped around all this. I would love to receive feedback and/or have a discussion and I am just as curious as to how everyone else feels about these subjects.
