Can you ever forget Byteball?

No, to be clear, this isn't an obituary to Byteball; but still, can you ever forget Byteball?

Yes the one that offered the biggest exclusive airdrop to Steemian till date?

But Byteball wants you to forget its name.
Byteball is getting a new name, new logo and new identity this new year. It has rebranded itself now.

Yesterday, Suirelav - a Byteball core team member, announced through a medium post that Byteball is being rebranded as Obyte now.

For a long time Byteball was looking for a new name for itself. It had hired a professional naming agency to help them finalize a new name.

What's in a name?

I don't know what was wrong with the name Byteball, but this is probably because I'm not a native English speaker. As Suirelav indicates that the name didn't sound fine with native English speakers.

But I think the team is fine with the prefix "Byte" and only have some objection against the suffix "Ball". I guess, it's because the suffix "Ball" is used to intensify several derogatory terms or also as a vulgar slang for sexual intercourse or similar connotations. So probably they decided to do away with the suffix "Ball" but retain the word "Byte" to keep its association with its formerr name.

Byteball is O_byte now

Well, whatever were the reasons, it has got a new name Obyte and they prefer to write it as O_byte wherever it's possible to write it like this.

They have already changed several of their social media identities to align with their newly acquired brand name.

Medium is still @Byteball but they ha ve changed the profile name as Obyte.

I hope other social media identities too will be changed to reflect its new name soon.

I liked the new name Obyte as it's short & sweet & O'some.
When I read this name for the first time, I recalled the names of stationeless bike sharing companies Obike & OFO as these names too are very short and starts with "O". Among these ofo is very catchy as the name itself becomes a clip art of a bike. Similarly Oball is very short and simple.
