Voyage LA interviewed me about my new job!
Today we’d like to introduce you to Jin Yu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in restaurant hospitality and worked my way up from a floor manager to the GM of the highest profile restaurant in LA, doing annual sales of 20 million.
During this time, this venue was quite the celebrity hotspot. I met some of the biggest names in entertainment and multiple other verticals. Some of the most recognizable names in the world at the time and some to this day. I befriended many of these people and helped produce some of their charitable events. Being aligned with so many notable names and celebrity, many brands approached me about participating in these events. Ultimately, I launched an entire business out of this which led to a decade long career producing experiential event activations. One of my experiential events was for the W Hollywood Hotel which was entitled simply “Sunday Jazz”. It was a short term live music activation to help boost awareness and sales for the overall hotel property on Sundays. However, it went on for SEVEN years as each month we were able to attract surprise celebrity performers to join our resident band and singers. Guests such as; Justin Bieber, Stevie Wonder, Florence and the machines, Robin Thicke, Carly Rae Jepsen, Megan Trainor, Babyface, Santana, Macy Gray and many more.
Producing so many experiential events for fortune 1000 brands for over a decade led to developing a mind that quickly understood the ethos of companies and brands and how to best communicate their culture to a consumer audience and future brand evangelists. This experience led to me becoming the co-founder of my first tech company, Surkus. A technology platform that uses ai, algorithms and big data to match brands to microinfluencers. Most recently, I’ve recently joined the vezt.co team as the Chief Growth Officer where my day to day is building global brand partnerships, strategic alliances, joint ventures, sponsorships and experiential marketing
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. As a small business owner, there are always ups and downs and you never know where your next paycheck will come from. All you can control is the quality of your work and execution and good relationship management if a client is not fully satisfied. there are so many outside factors that can negatively impact your work and image. All you can do is always have a backup plan to the backup plan’s, backup plan. lol
Don’t be afraid of mistakes, I’ve learned the biggest lessons from the biggest failures and I’m grateful for them
Vezt.co – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Currently, I’m the Chief Growth Officer of Vezt.co. the world’s first blockchain music platform that allows ANYONE to purchase microfractional “shares” of any song or album of any artist, using cryptocurrency and all royalties tracked on blockchain.
Everyone is elated with the meteoric rise of Bitcoin but the underlying technology of blockchain is what could change the world.
Once the vezt.co blockchain platform succeeds in revolutionizing the 50 bil music royalty industry it could be ported into other verticals. Film, television royalties, global banking, healthcare records, global remittance payments, charitable giving and encrypted government voting.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Solving big problems with simple solutions and the ability to scale it cost effectively.
Building a company out of this algorithm. Providing jobs to good people, collaborating with the greatest minds, constantly adapting and evolving, learning always, giving back when you’re able, mentor the young and work balance with the home and the ones you love the most.
In simpler terms, achieve balance in life and congruency.
