Solarcoin Crypto Community Raises £10,000 for UK Charity SolarAid
The community surrounding the digital currency #SolarCoin donated £10,000 to UK charity #SolarAid over Christmas, helping provide cheap solar lighting to people in Africa.
The sum - or 6804 SolarCoins - was the total value donated by 30 different SLR wallets, ranging from 1 to 5000 SLRs.
SolarAid helps African kids study at night - without the noxious fumes of kerosene lights
Setup by members of the SolarCoin Slack channel, the Christmas appeal raised funds to help SolarAid provide inexpensive solar lights to villages in the developing world. Many people in lesser developed nations use kerosene for heat and light, which is expensive, harmful to human health - and a key source of CO2.
SolarAid is therefore a great way to tackle both inequality and carbon emissions.
SolarAid registered with the #Lykke exchange to receive their funds via a blockchain transfer. On the Lykke platform they can now trade their new SLRs for USD, EURO or Sterling, or various other cryptocurrencies.

This is excellent - such a good and apt little idea. Well done all involved.
Yeah - was great work all round. Sometimes it's the unexpected things that go big!
Remember folks, you can always donate to SolarAid the "old-fashioned" way. They are a really cool organisation but really need your help.

We cracked it. I wonder if their post was sent out to their mailing lists etc? Co-incidentally there was a presentation in Lewes (near Brighton) just last night by the SolarAid team. I couldn't make it but am told it was interesting.
Excelente iniciativa, mucho éxito.
