As an online encyclopedia for modern age, Everipedia has officially introduced its operation online. It is a peer-to-peer, online encyclopedia using EOS.io technology. This online encyclopedia uses crypto tokens to reward users using the platform by providing and editing articles. IQ tokens has entitled its holder to voting rights within the network. Everipedia is somewhat alike from Wikipedia which democratize the encyclopedia model and offer incentives to content providers. Everipedia is decentralized structure which makes it impossible to censor the network. Its reward system setup was designed to provide a more inclusive and fully autonomous encyclopedia without donations and advertisements.
Everipedia Model
“We are elated to release our minimum viable network which allows users to vote on and create articles in a decentralized manner for the first time,” - Dr. Larry Sanger, Everipedia’s chief information officer who co-founded Wikipedia
According to Dr. Sanger, blockchain technology has made possible to innovate based on Wikipedia's model to disrupt online information. So, Everipedia's model was based on the model of Wikipedia. To incentivized the users, they only need and EOS account and IQ tokens to create and vote on iqnetwork.io. At this time, Sam Kazemia, Everipedia co-founder and president said that 16.8 million IQ has been staked by users on the network.
When did it began?
Everipedia was created in 2015 as a more inclusive alternative to Wikipedia. It was created by Kazemian and Forselius joind Mahbod Maghadam and Travis Moore. It already has millions of unique visitors monthly about 6 million encyclopedia articles, exceeding English Wikipedia in content. Also has 8,000 volunteers and editors via social networks such as Facebook, Telegram and Reddit.
The founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales recently said he has reservations about blockchain calling a bubble with a lot of hype. However, Wikimedia Foundation has accepted bitcoin donations since 2014 after US Internal Revenue Service provided guidance on how bitcoin should be treated for tax purposes.
Thank you for your time.
