Tutiorial: HELP! My EtherDelta accounts are missing! (How to migrate your keys to the new official URL)
If you have not loaded EtherDelta recently, you may be surprised to find that when you do, your accounts are missing!
At first glance you'll notice that the domain name is changed to etherdelta.com but it used to be etherdelta.github.io
Is this a hack? Did someone just steal all of your tokens? Thankfully, no. It turns out that GitHub, where the hosting for the site was, had a brief outage! In response, the team behind the project re-launched the code on a new official URL https://etherdelta.com
The official @EtherDelta twitter account posted on Twitter to "verify" the change https://twitter.com/etherdelta/status/906027544696168449
So, that's the good news. You can now bookmark the new URL and trust that it's running the official code. Of course, you are putting your trust in the team to keep the URL secure and the server securely hosting the proper code, though. However, the same trust was in place for ensuring the GitHub URL and recent commits were not malicious either.
But there's still the problem of your missing accounts.
The first, best and safest method would be to just import your keys from your secure backup. You have a secure backup of your keys, right?
If you just want it to be quick and easy, you can also use a page that the developers recently published at the old EtherDelta github server to show you your addresses and keys on-file at the old domain:
https://etherdelta.github.io/export.html

You can copy your addresses and private keys from this page, then go to the new URL and click "import address" and paste them in. Though, I believe this method won't work if you use MetaMask.
But, I'm lazy and I didn't really dig into my options before attempting to migrate on my own. So, I used a different method. Since I use chrome, I just went into the browser and copied the values from one domain to the other.
It turns out that EtherDelta uses "Local Storage" (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Window/localStorage is an "HTML5" in-browser database for somewhat-securely storing information linked to a specific website) to store your addresses and keys.
To start, I loaded a non-existent URL (a 404) to allow me to access local storage while on the old EtherDelta domain: https://etherdelta.github.io/404
Then, I hit "F12" on my keyboard to open Chrome DevTools: https://developer.chrome.com/devtools
I went to the "Application" tab, and selected "Local Storage", then "https://etherdelta.github.io"
I then double clicked the text starting with {"addrs":["0x...
and copied the value.
Then I loaded https://etherdelta.github.io/ which redirects me to the new URL:
https://etherdelta.com
Then, I hit "F12" on my keyboard again to open Chrome DevTools: https://developer.chrome.com/devtools
I went to the "Application" tab, and selected "Local Storage", then "https://etherdelta.com"
I then double clicked the text starting with {"addrs":["0x...
and pasted the value from my clipboard.
I closed and re-opened my browser and my addresses were all loaded and ready to go.
If you have not done so already, back up your keys!
Happy Trading!
