Study reveals the presence of ASIC Miners in the ZCASH network
The situation with Bitmain's ASIC miners intensified after the company launched the Equihash miner, and many members of the community speculated that there were already ASIC miners in the network, which would make this new tool increase its dominance .
In the study that analyzes the threat of centralization of the Zcash network with these miners, the Zcash Foundation had the collaboration of the University of Luxembourg. The report, published on June 6, confirms the use of ASICs that execute the Equihash algorithm for Zcash mining.
The study, called 'Detection of ASIC miners in Zcash', states that these miners can have control of more than 30 percent of the total hash rate. The researchers analyzed the last of May 2018 and concluded that 87.5 percent of the processing resources of the network are contributed by four mining groups.
In this sense, the Equihash algorithm of the Bitmain ASIC miners would have a presence in the network of 20 to 30 percent, which indicates a relatively high percentage, or much more than previously thought.
As we have previously reported, in case a mining group obtains a majority hashrate, it can launch attacks of 51 percent and double the cost of cryptocurrencies. At the moment, it is not known what measures Zcash Foundation will take, but it is expected that before the watchful eye of the community, a new way of reversing the power of these miners in the network will emerge.
One of the things that can generally affect the crypto world apart from the manipulation of prices by whales, are actions that can be taken as malicious by companies that are dedicated to promoting their development. In the team of @stronguser we think that unfortunately several actions have been carried out to harm some cryptocurrencies, however we hope that what makes them so authentic, transparency and unrolling will prevail.
