A Reasoned Approach: Advertising within Scorum

As more people hear about the rewarding fan community Scorum is building on blockchain technology, we’re often asked how we’ll be able to generate enough profit to sustain the project. With zero fees for the betting exchange and fantasy sports leagues and no cost to join, where will the money come from? What we propose is a solution that meets the need to sustain the project and furthers the cause of cryptocurrency adoption at the same time.

To avoid putting up a paywall or resorting to a “freemium” style membership program, Scorum will offer advertising within the platform. This will be implemented discreetly in a manner that won’t obstruct the user experience. With the giants of social media collecting enormous revenue from advertisement and rolling out paywall systems, the time is now to shift the paradigm for sports media.

The two major types of ads will be

  1. Content promotion for authors
    Scorum writers will be able to promote their own posts using SCR tokens. Promoted content gives authors an easy and efficient way to increase their reader base as the platform grows. Thanks to our fair rewards system, the readers will of course have the final say in rating the quality of the content and distributing rewards to the authors who truly shine. For active sports writers this is great way to establish a following and hone their craft!

  2. Native Advertisement Design
    This is where we take the opportunity to select ads that not only match the sports interests of our audience, but also promote other blockchain-based projects that further the growth and adoption of cryptocurrency solutions. We’ll have an ads manager on staff to curate the projects we promote so that our user base is not exposed to fraudulent or poorly thought out products.

What this means for active winners in Scorum’s betting platform is that they’ll be exposed to curated cryptocurrency projects and products that they can then use their winnings to take part in. And not only that, companies in the sports industry are also welcome to buy ads within the platform as well as join in our partner programs to offer their goods and services to be purchased in SCR.

The Good News

While users familiar with digital media see ads as a necessary evil that feed huge corporate incomes for essentially harvesting and selling data about their users, Scorum will take a more balanced approach by fairly redistributing a full half its ad revenue back to the active users of the platform. This is coded in at the blockchain level. All ad purchases will be in Scorum Coins tokens (SCR) and recorded on the blockchain so there’s no way we can fudge the numbers and take more than our fair share.

Here’s a breakdown of Scorum’s advertising revenue distribution (in SCR):

  • 50% will go to Scorum to further research, development, and marketing
  • 30% goes to rewarding authors writing on the platform (weighted fairly to reward more popular articles)
  • 10% for content curators who are active in voting or commenting in the blogging platform
  • 5% is split among all active members (determined by having less than 100% Voting Power)
  • 5% is distributed among delegates signing blocks on the Scorum blockchain

This creates a symbiotic relationship between us here on the Scorum team and the members of the sports community that join our project. We’ll do our part to develop, implement, and improve the features that our users enjoy and bring in more fans to our platform. More fans on Scorum equals more profitable ads equals a higher payout for active users in the platform.

2017 was a breakout year for cryptocurrencies in general and many predict that the swell of popularity will continue to grow in 2018. Scorum will offer competitive pricing in SCR in its ad system so that up and coming companies can reach an audience that is interested in engaging in blockchain-based products and communities.

All these factors add up to an inclusive fan experience that gives Scorum members several clear ways to gain more SCR under their own efforts in the platform. Whether earned through writing, curating, playing in the fantasy leagues, or placing wagers, fans will have great ways to spend their earnings on products that tie into their interests without having to bother with secondary exchanges.
