Rento, Transforming the Sharing Economy
The sharing economy is booming. Now there is the ONE app where you can share all your items and make money from it: Rento. Plus, if you join their bounty, you will be able to already earn without renting out your stuff yet.
So, how does Rento work?
The complicated image here is actually relatively simple: a complete ecosystem of sharing items is liked in the Rento app, where the Rento RTO tokens are the currency flowing. Rento is unique in that it does not focus on a specific rental market but generalizes it all: anything from anyone can be rented to anyone else.
The Rento ecosystem
In this ecosystem, the blockchain is needed to generate trust and form smart contracts to settle the deals between individuals and ensure financial compensation for renting. Just think about all the items you have at home, unused. Think about the garage and its tools: when do you use them? Just let them make money for you!
The sharing economy is not new, people are already renting out their cars through several sites. But cars are quite expensive and what if someone breaks it… so it might just be easier to rent out your other items. Rento will therefore first focus on household items before venturing into other fields, and they will even set up an actual physical shopfront too, to highlight the capabilities of renting anything.
Rento’s competition
Rento will focus on Europe first, where it sees AirBnB and Turo as ‘competitors’. However, those have specifically focused on vacation housing and car sharing, and therefore Rento is well suited as a new company in the area of household goods.
Another items to take into consideration is that these are centralized platforms, where you must trust the AirBnB or Turo company to make everything work for you. Using blockchain, Rento transforms the sharing market from a centralized system to a decentralized peer to peer system.
App interface
The app interface is clean, simple, and understandable. While development is still to happen, they’ve taken input and learned from the key players in this field and understood that the interface should be for everyone.
Several prototype screenshots of Rento
These four screens show the log in screen, having a link with social media. An overview screen with large photos and options for renting is key, with the menu buttons on the bottom, but also adding, search, and filters at the top. You can immediately check reservations that you made, and check messages, as you do have to discuss with others when you rent out.
I’m still missing any finance tab, but I’m sure that’s coming in the release. As you can see, you don’t need to show any blockchain specifics, you can also rent with cash and still register it in contracts.
Bounty & Airdrop
So, I’ve discussed Rento, but much more detail can be found in the whitepaper found on their website. Just as any blockchain project, they’re having their ICO which you can join as well (unsurprisingly, also at their site)
You can also start earning some RTO by spreading the word, using their bounty system or airdrop. As with almost all bounties, the main Bitcointalk forum post is where you’d start, which you can find here.
For the airdrop, they’ve opted for a sort of competition. You can register for this competition if you click here, after which you have to complete several tasks to increase your amount of points. The more points, the higher your rank, the more RTO you can make.
Concluding
Rento is a unique entry into the sharing economy, in the future allowing anything to be rented out. When ready, be sure to rent out your items and make money from what you just have lying around doing nothing!
