Ledger Nano Hiccups

The other morning I was helping a close friend of mine sell her Bitcoin Cash (BCH). She saw that the price for Bitcoin had dropped to a reasonable level so she asked for me to help her sell it. While I was getting everything in order, I asked for her to enter the pin to her Ledger Nano so that I could grab the receiving address. To my surprise, there was no balance or even a list of previous transactions.

I was stumped... I have never seen anything like this before.

Shortly after seeing that none of the wallets had value in them I started to panic. Recently a mutual friend of ours bought a Ledger Nano off eBay for a low price. Once he saw a post in a forum, he started to feel that maybe his might have been tampered with. Immediately I started to assume that as well. I asked myself "Do you think the recovery seed was exposed at some point within the last week of working with her?" "No, she's very mindful of that so I doubt she would leave it out" I told myself. Feeling awful, I explained to her what I had discovered and quickly she jumped to a computer and started to research. I decided to recover the device with the hopes of gaining access to the assets but I had no luck. Within minutes she found out what the issue was... it was the servers.

I asked her to enter the pin and once the wallet opened up I clicked the refresh button. A thin grey bar dropped down saying that the wallet did not sync properly. My face started to turn red, I was completely embarrassed that I thought for even a second that the funds were gone. The lesson that I wanted to express here is that when you're in doubt do your best to remain calm.

A day later this post got updated so I suspect others are also experience this as well.

Thank you for sharing this. I also have a cold wallet that my wife stores her crypto on and I can only imagine the gut wrenching feeling that occurred when you first saw the 0 balances. Glad to hear that everything was OK. You can't be too careful nowadays with horror stories popping up all over the place of people losing money.

Thanks for the post.
After having and using the Ledger Nano for over a year I had never experienced this issue before.
I sent funds only 4 days ago and it worked fine, yet this weekend I HAD to send more funds I have been unable to access my funds for two days, including the funds held on my Nano S.
I had no idea that I was at the mercy of some servers being overloaded, maybe due to the firmware upgrade 1.4.1 required for the Nano S before the 20th March.
Yet according to the Ledger Status page everything is currently fine; http://status.ledger.fr/
I feel like I am in Greece when the ATM's were all closed and nobody could access their cash!
