It's useful for most people as Monero GUI is quite pain is a$$ for average user not knowing Monerod (daemon) has to be synchronized so the GUI wallet stops lagging.
Monero is my best "earner" so far. Still very profitable with both CPU and GPU on good miners like XMRcgpu - http://www.xmrcgpu.com/XMRCGPU.zip
