Initiative Q - Too good to be true?

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

When I first saw a post about Initiative Q on Facebook, I was both very mistrustful and curious. It sounded like the x-th iteration of some cryptocurrency referral system. On the other hand, I knew the guy referring it from old times at the university's computing centre.
So I thought, maybe, but really only maybe, this is not a scheme to screw people up.
I gave it a go and, lo and behold, they really only try to make the project known. And perhaps hype it a bit along the way.

They merely wanted my name and a mail adress. How's that, in a world of Airdrops, where you have to work through compendia worth of tasks, crisscrossing along multitudes of different media?
I tell you: Resfreshingly free of hassles.

It could potentially take a long time for the Q to become useful and valuable, if at all. But there's really not much to lose by signing up.
Use a throwaway mail if you fear spam.
Wait and see. And if it's not succesful: Forget.

Anyhow, here's the invitation text they provide, with some more info in it. I'd be happy to accept your application, if you want to join!

Official Invitation of Initiative Q:

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot.

Here is my invite link: https://initiativeq.com/invite/SUdr6A93X

This link will stop working once I’m out of invites. Let me know after you registered, because I need to verify you on my end.

Sorry?
Yes, I attached the official text to my personal opinion of Q. It's clearly stated, if by your comment you are suggesting I plagiarized it.

i think the major problem people have with this is that it is just another centralized payment system and isn't really anything new or anonymous. You are correct about it only needing your email address and the "invites" is a bunch of garbage, it simply makes it feel exclusive and encourages people to do the advertising for them. Nothing wrong with that i guess.

I think the biggest problem i have with it is that they advertise it in a way of making people believe it is going to be the next bitcoin and "don't you feel like an idiot for missing out on BTC? now's your chance to fix that!"

haha.

Totally with you there. They look to attract attention by those references to Bitcoin and by making it look like a limited commodity. After reading their materials, their goal of reaching 1$ per Q seems certainly out of touch with reality.

But hey, I've seen shadier project pitches and if someday they reach even a fraction of what they're aiming for, that's a win for me ;)
