RE: dNations - A new war and nation building game on the blockchain!
What blockchain will the assets in the game exist on? EOS? I'm assuming this will not be a Steem app. That is, when you delegate to this app what happens is that your delegation will direct some of STEEM inflation to the project that will sell the STEEM tokens to be able to pay its developers creating selling pressure on STEEM while not creating a product that will create demand for Steem Power in the future? If this is the case, delegators should understand that by delegating to a project like this they are causing selling pressure on STEEM while increasing the value of some other blockchain. I would suggest you delegate to a genuine Steem project instead.
Steem doesn't have the necessary software. If they release the SMT platform before I get to coding smart contracts then I'll definitely be giving Steem a hard look. If it doesn't come out for a long time then that's their fault honestly. I can't wait forever. Especially when there is competition out there that have everything I need. People can earn tokens by delegating Steem to me too. I can calculate the value of the SP over X amount of time and they will be paid in DNT accordingly.
But, if I don't end up using Steem for the reasons I listed above, it will be available in the game to purchase tokens with.
And why would I not post this? People post things about every cryptocurrency on Steemit. :P You should appreciate the fact that I'm investing my time to build on the blockchain period. Any coin or token that brings more people into the crypto world is good, imo. Don't be so negative. Especially when Steemit is a platform used to post articles about whatever you want.
I'm not saying you can't advertise your app here. But please be clear on whether it will be a Steem app or not. That was a hot point of contention in the case of DStors, which is why it is advisable to be clear on whether or not yours will be a Steem app.
By the way, you can use Steem without SMTs to store your assets on it. It is possible to store Custom JSON objects on Steem. You can implement the game objects as those on Steem like Steem Monsters does. Your app can move tokens around on another blockchain. Of course, you might prefer not to use Steem at all since EOS has the ability to have tokens issued on it and you might not want to create a multi-chain app. But investors owning Steem Power should be clearly informed whether or not their SP will go towards an app the use of which will create demand for Steem Power in the future. Of course, the ability to delegate SP and earn any other token is a good thing in principle but it would be better if the app used Steem in some manner.
Huh? What is DStors and what does that have to do with me? I don't really know what you mean? Btw, it was clear in my post that it wasn't going to be built on Steem. I said I was leaning towards EOS but was still undecided. I also said the pre-launch tokens will be on the Waves platform. Balances will be transferred over to whichever chain we end up using. I'm pretty sure I explained how the delegations would work for earning tokens, idk maybe I forgot that part.
From my post:
Also, I've looked into the limits of what can be done with Steem now and it's still just lacking quite a few things I need. If the SMT launch actually happens in March (that's the last date that Ned gave) then I will definitely be considering it.
DStors is a decentralized online store project that forgot to mention in its whitepaper that it was going to use Custom JSON objects on Steem to store information on buyers and sellers, trades and the merchandise.
You said you were going to use smart contracts. I'm afraid that those are not part of the Steem roadmap at the moment. If you are going to use smart contracts, then a platform like EOS is definitely a better choice as EOS has a virtual machine that can execute them and efficiently unlike a PoW chain like Ethereum.
In this conversation you have cleared up things that were unclear to me. Thank you.
Oh really? I thought SMT's were essentially smart contracts? I haven't really looked into them too much since the release has been pretty unclear. Do you know if there's any documentation on SMTs available anywhere?
SMT's are going to be something like ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum. The idea was that there be special purpose smart contracts to control issuance run by the Steem blockchain code. Also, an ICO functionality is in the roadmap, now postponed by Steemit Inc. until the market recovers. But Steem does not have a virtual machine capable of executing arbitrary smart contracts like Ethereum or EOS. There was some talk about creating a primitive version of smart contracts using side chains by Dan Larrimer about two years ago. But no side chains have been implemented. Steem is essentially a special purpose chain created for content delivery and rewarding. It has the ability to have Custom JSON data stored on it that does not use the reward system.<
Here's something for starters: https://smt.steem.com/
Ah okay. Yeah I had a totally different idea of how SMT's would function in my mind.
Also another note: I'm building a simple bot that will automatically transfer tokens to people who send steem/sbd to me with a specific memo included. Also to handle the delegations and automatically pay out. I'm probably going to make a seperate Steem account for the game so everything for it can be managed there instead of through my profile.
Great. I'll be looking forward to your project. We want gamers to be brought into crypto en masse and your project will be of help.
By the way, you handled my somewhat negative comments gracefully which is always confidence inspiring.
Btw, stick around. I will be doing giveaways and contests with the DNT as a reward if you're interested. If you like MMORPG strategy games, then I think you might enjoy this game.
I will. The industry needs projects like DNations. I wish you success.
Yeah potentially earning money from gaming is going to be a big thing in the near future. And also the whole digital asset thing i imagine will be pretty big too.
Absolutely! There is no way for users to have real ownership of their digital assets except on a blockchain. Besides, people are willing to pay money for playing games online, which is why games, gambling and online commerce will most likely be the killer apps of the near future creating the most value and organic demand for the blockchains.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
I'm trying to find some help now to get things done quicker. I'm not the best graphic designer either so I'm definitely hiring someone to handle that part.
I'm hoping to have a beta testnet in 2-3 months if everything goes pretty smoothly.
